Turner were the parents of my Great-Grandmother, Anna Elizabeth Dowell, who was born in Lusby, Calvert Co., MD on 14 July 1872. There was a family myth that William B. Dowell's parents were both killed by lightning when he was a child. I did not put a lot of faith in the story since so many of these prove to be false but a cousin forwarded this article: Maryland Gazette, May 23, 1839, "During a violent gust on Monday the 13th inst., Captain Dowell, his wife and child while traveling in Calvert County, not far from Prince Frederick, were all three killed by a flash of lighting." If you look at the census records from the area they lived a lot of the men were watermen and I suspect this indicates he had a boat of some size, but I have no reason to believe his was a military or naval title.
