John, I suspect that your line goes back to Philip Dowell in Anne Arundel County. His descendants had no respect for the county line between Calvert and Anne Arundel. Most of the Dowells in that area seem to have descended from him. Now for the fun part of trying to establish the linkages. He listed his father as George Francis Dowell and his mother as Marion Martha Graves on a birth certificate for one of my sisters. That is all the info we have been able to find.
