Actually civil registration of births in England did not begin until 1837. If you will go to www.familysearch.org and choose the "Search" tab > "Research Guidance" on the top bar below the tabs. Then select England from the list. That will bring up a page of England Events and Time Periods. You can choose the event - birth, marriage or death and the time period you are working. It will then outline a strategy for you to research and get the documentation available.
