The Dowell/Dewell DNA project now has results back from the lab on 17 members. So far they have been separated into 4 distinct and apparently unrelated groups originating in Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. A fifth distinct line has been documented in England. Another Dewell member in the US may trace his line back to Germany. Three more members have just sent samples to the lab and their results will be known in a few weeks. So far we have not observed any close matches with McDowells who have been tested in spite of the many oral tales of such associations. Please contact me for more information. Hi, my mothers mother was a Dowell from the Mexico, Mo area. Her ggrandfather I believe was Nehemiah Dowell from Fauquier County, Va. Are you related to this line of Dowell's?
