    2. Hello Cricket, Sorry to hear you are leaving the board as administrator. Several months back I read your response to Nathan Dowell wherein you said you just might know folks that are working the same Dowell line as his. About two months ago I asked you if you could let me know who those folks might be. My Dowell line is the same as Nathan's and ascends from William Morton Dowell, Alonzo Henry Dowell, George Martin Dowell, and George Dowell who married Polly Tomberlin (Cherokee Indian blood). You said to remind you if I did not hear back from you. Any names you can provide me that are working on my on my Dowell ancestors would be appreciated. Thanks. Neva Dowell Whiles

Surnames: Dowell, Board, Helts Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AST.2ACEB/439 Message Board Post: Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way [:-)] http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Dowell/Cain Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AST.2ACEB/437 Message Board Post: Folks, those of you who show George Dowell born in 1813 being 4 years old when he had George W may not be accurate for obvious reasons. I am one of the daughters of Simeon Gordon Dowell 1922-1990 and know there are accurate records for this line back to Simeon Augustus. I am a bit unclear when it gets to George W other than date (b. 1817), but I do not think that next record for George is correct. From the best I can figure based on information gathered from County Courthouses, the Civil War pretty much destroyed any record that would link the next George back. If anyone has found differently please let me know! There are a lot of submitted lines I am seeing with that George W/George link there and it is not accurate! Thanks! Norma J Dowell
