    1. [Dowell] Philip DOWELL, b. abt 1680 Anne Arundel MD
    2. Dolly Ziegler
    3. Hello to the DOWELL list. Here's my line: What I have for Philip DOWELL: b. abt 1680, Anne Arundel Co. MD. M. Mary Tydings, 11 June 1702 St. James Parish, AA Co. MD. Went from St. James Parish to All Hallows on South River, AA Co. He witnessed Dutton Lane's will c 1726. Philip's will dated 26 Jan. 1733, proved 22 Apr 1734. (Note this may be Old Style dates, with will proved 3 months after written.) St. James parish records burned, 1733. What I have for Nicholas DOWELL: father of Philip MAY BE, BUT NOT PROVED, the Nicholas DOWELL who made will 19 July 1704 at Bohemia, Cecil Co. MD, will proved 9 Aug. 1705. Will named legatees as wife Elizabeth, a godson, a cousin, a nephew, NO mention of children. This is not proof that he was not Philip's father -- perhaps he made prior provision -- but it certainly raises a red flag. I have examined the original will, just to be sure. Corrections appreciated. Dolly in Maryland

    3. Hello Fellow DOWELL Researchers, I have adopted the orphaned DOWELL mailing list. A little about myself -- I live in northern Arizona and have been doing genealogy many years, now. I have a little experience from volunteering in the local FHC and have been managing mailing lists and boards for the past 5 years. I also host the Allegany co., NY and Samoa GenWeb site (and no, I don't have any Samoan ancestry -- it's a log story). However, I _do_ have a DOWELL line. I am very laid back as a List-admin. Post your DOWELL queries, questions or related discussion. If you are stumped on your research, post it -- there are currently around 80 subscribers and someone may know the answer. The only thing that is discouraged is virus warnings or silly sentimental forwards (we've seen them all, anyway.) If you have a concern please email me privately at Dowell-L-admin@rootsweb.com or karenbush@thedam.com Now let's kick this list up a notch and find some missing Dowells :-) Karen Bush Dowell-L Admin karenbush@thedam.com

    2. Bill Lysak
    3. I am seeking contact with or information about Lucrece (middle name Beverly or Bevington) Dowell and her brother, Emery Dowell (called Sonny) . They lived in Tempe AZ area in the 1950s, Lucrece operated a med. lab. entitled "Dowell Laboratories" at 26 East 8th St., Tempe. Owner listed as Lu Crece B. Dowell, M.S. Emery married Ruth Timberlake Dec. 1950 and graduated from a college in Tempe about 1952. He was a Journalist by profession and likely in Navy in Hawaii, according to photo I have. Dowells originally from Butler or Adair, MO. Their grandmother was Lucrece Bevington who likely married a Mr. Frank Clay. Emery and Lucrece's great grandmother was Amelia Matthes who marrried Squire George Bevington at Winterset, IA on 21 Aug. 1871. Amelia was ny great aunt and is buried in the Matthes plot in Bellingham WA The succession may go like this: Amelia Matthes (Mrs. Squire Geoerge Bevington) Lucrece Bevington (Mrs. Frank Clay) Alyenne (probably Mrs. ? Dowell who later married Max Sauer) Lucrece B. Dowell and Emery Dowell Any responses gratefully appreciated by sender Jo Ann Lysak

If you are a descendant of Philip DOWELL, b. abt 1680 in Anne Arundel MD, be aware that while some researchers think he is a son of Nicholas DOWELL b. abt 1650 -- this is a shaky link. There may have been two Nicholases. In the will of Nicholas DOWELL made 1704 and probated 1705 in Cecil County, his legatees are wife Elizabeth, a godson, a cousin, and a nephew; no mention of children. All DOWELL researchers will be interested in any early mentions of Philip DOWELL -- in any part of Maryland! Please post your findings to the DOWELL-L@rootsweb.com list so we can all appreciate any new information. Thanks! Dolly in Maryland

Surnames: Dowell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/AST.2ACEB/448.1 Message Board Post: Shannon, The only clue I have ever seen about the origins of Nicholas DOWELL is found in his will written in Bohemia, Cecil County, July 19, 1704, "I give and bequeath.... then "to Returne to my said Brother's Children meaning my brother Joseph's Children in Bennetts Cattle [Castle] in London." REF: Wills, Liber 3, Folio 734 I have always taken this to mean that Nicholas had no descendants in Maryland unless they predeceased him or had been disinherited. Do you have indication that he had offspring in the colonies?
