It is probably an error as I had an email from him in Sept.... The name is, I think, James -S- Dowell. Renee L. Regarding James E Dowell, About 20 or so years ago, I met with Jim in KC, and he shared all of Dowell info (several hundred pages) with me, which I still have. He believed that there were at least 4 different Dowell lineages in this country (which meant he was unable to connect them with each other). According to SSDI, I found the following, altho not sure if him, but strongly suppect it. The birth date agrees with what he gave me. She was truly amazing. She is buried at Bowling Green, KY, and there was a big article in the local newspaper written about her in the 1950s... Our own Dr. Quinn! Lanita A new cousin a day, keeps the boredom away!

This was one amazing woman. I had never heard of her before, but I am very proud of her. Edith Cook
Thanks for the reply. Will get it corrected in his gedcom. Lanita I Should have asked them BEFORE they died!
Hello Edith, My name is Alan D. Van Nort and I am the grandson of Pell Ulysses Dowell. Pell was born in Kentucky about 1881 and died in New York State March 31, 1943 a month after I was born. He married my grandmother, Ella M. Taber and they subsequently divorced. I know virtually nothing about Pell and have no tie in to his lineage. I would be very appreciative of any tie in and/or information you may have regarding Pell Dowell. Angeline Melinda Dowell married James Spilvin Willis and their son, Luther Martin Willis was my grandfather. I believe the first John Dowell was born about 1708 in Albermarle Co., VA. All of the names makes your head spin sometimes, too many John's and William's. Angeline and James were both born in VA. their families moved to Lincoln Co., MO in the early 1850s. Alice, I see where my husband has entered in a S. BURNIS, wondering if that is the same one, and he misread the L for an S.. sounds like that may be the case. Fern, I did some further checking, and I find a Lorenzo DOWELL that was a BROTHER to William Harrison DOWELL. This Lorenzo was b. 22 Nov 1822 and mar. Minerva ADKISSON. I have both of these DOWELL boys were sons of George Washington DOWELL [1788-1842] and Mary Ann "Polly" WIMP [1794-1877]. Are we talking about the same Lorenzo? Shirley, you and my husband HAVE to be connected some way [you are naming some of the same surnames], and you and I may be connected as well [DOOLEY]! Shirley has found a copy of SISTLER Census for 1850. In the Meade County section, she found: DOWELL, Thomas S. 29, Nancy 19. NOW, anyone know who this Thomas and Nancy DOWELLs in Meade Co., KY [USA] were? I don't have a Thomas S. anywhere! Lanita A new cousin a day, keeps the boredom away!
Betty, I don't know about the HARRISON connection, although there was a HARRISON girl who married into my husband's BOARD family. Fern, I think you and my husband are cousins! Actually Locke Cemetery is outside of Brookfield and Marceline in Mike, MO... you'd miss MIKE if you didn't know where the community used to be. But, you're right.. he did die at the home of Aunt Emmie's. We took my husband's 99 year old father, John Horace MILLER, son of Bessie DOWELL MILLER [Simeon's dau.], to Mike 2 years ago. Horace's memory was still very sharp and he was able to show us where everyone lived. He graduated from Brookfield HS in 1921.. Anyway, we went to Locke Cemetery and took pics of all those DOWELL and MILLER descendants and ancestors. We also went to Rothville Cemetery for more of the MILLER ancestral graves. I am looking at my husband's DOWELL gedcom file, and don't see Lorenzo Burnice Dowell. Do you have any info that you would be willing to share? Would be happy to exchange info. Lanita A new cousin a day, keeps the boredom away!
I am wondering if you are a branch of our family. The William Harrison sounds like it. My husband is a descendent of the Harrison family. Mirriam Harrison is my usbands line. Elizabeth Harrison is my line. William Henry & Elizabeth >Orson Austin + Miriam Harrison>James Washington Omens + Emily Permila Austin>Albert Harrison Dowell + Alice Miriam Omans>Jason Leroy Dowell + Martha Dingman>A;bert Claus Dowell+Betty Shepard. Also please note the Albert Harrison Dowell. Sounds like some more marrying of the Harrison families. Betty L.
