Lee 1869, Samuel Rufus 1870, & Minnie Florence 1871. Death certificates in Hunt County, Texas, for James L. and Minnie list Susan Dyer as their mother. Certificate for R. E. My grandfather was John Fielding Dowell, brother of Charles Wilson Dowell and Alonzo Franklin Dowell. Their father was Frank (actually Benjamin Franklin) Dowell, born about 1859 in Wilkes Co., NC. His father was Francis A. Dowell, born about 1834 in NC. Benjamin Franklin Dowell's wife: Mary Elvira Baker, born 15 July 1858. I am so excited to know that someone else is researching Dowells in the same area. I have not been able to get past Francis A. Dowell, and my information on him is sketchy. Could you please share with me anything you have found out, and where I should look further? My email address is mamapapa96@mchsi.com. Please respond, and I will send what information I have collected, which is readily available to you too. My brother and cousins from the Dowell line are living. But I am wondering whether they want males who actually have the last name of Dowell for the DNA studies. My mother was a Dowell, and the cousins I am acquainted with are connected to the Dowells through their mothers. Write soon, Dinah, or anyone else who can share and/or point me in the right direction to extend my information. CJ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Ella is also in the 1900 census living with her maternal grandmother Susan Lane in Morganton, Burke County. I can't find any trace of her in the 1910 census. I'm hoping to find that her father was Coke Hill Wynn, Jr. Thus far no luck. This is the information I have: Ella Mae Wynn Dowell b. 12 Sep 1889 d. 4 Oct 1975 widow; lived at 26143 Dacian St. , Winston-Salem, NC died at the Manor Care Nursing Home burial at Woodland Cemetery in Winston-Salem on 6 Oct 1975. Someone tried to find an obituary for her but said there wasn't one. I'm rather surprised at that. I do know that sometimes obits are delayed in being posted and am not sure how many days out this individual searched. Any suggestions or information would be appreciated. I am looking for information on Susie A. Owens, wife of James Washington (Wash) Owens [my gg-grandfather]. She was born 13 June 1840 and died 11 January 1870 according to her tombstone in Hinckle Cemetery, Alcorn County, Mississippi. Her tombstone also has the inscription that she is the wife of J. W. Owens. I have today obtained photocopies of death certificates for two of Wash Owens's children. On Samuel Rufus Owens's certificate from Grayson County, Texas, he was born 8 May 1870 in Mississippi, and died 4 March 1947. His mother is listed as Susan Dowell Owens. He is buried in Leonard, Fannin County, Texas. On Minnie Florence Owens's certificate from Fannin County, Texas, she was born 22 Oct 1871 in Mississippi, and died 13 September 1958. Her mother is listed as Susan Dyer. She is also buried in Leonard, Fannin County, Texas. It has been extremely difficult to locate any records for any of Wash's wives. The problem is that Susie A. Owens died before either of these children were born. It's just odd that both of their mother's are shown as a Susan. Does anyone have any information that might help me clear up this puzzle? Ron Turner

Wow it's a small world. I have never seen what Ray looked like as a young man.. I have all his letters he sent to family while he was away at war, and after my grandma passed. Vera Dean. I found large containers of pictures of the family. Ray is in allot of them. I met ray for the first time when I was 6. My dad Danny Croasdale took me to Oklahoma for a family visit. My great great grandmother grandma Frair was getting up in age, so my great grandma Frances planned for all of us to get together. I will never forget my 3 week stay. Ray spoiled me rotten. We played kick ball in his back yard, and teased the mean dog next door! We went fishing, and he forgot the fish in the trunk of his car! I think it may have been a few too many drinks! All I do know is that he was the only grandpa I had blood or not. I remember when he died a few years after my visit. I somehow knew it had happened before the family was told hear in Virginia. i did not take it we! ll. Frances who I call NaNa gave us a few things of ray's when he passed. A Kangaroo that held a smoking pipe, a bag of letters that Ray's mom gave Nana, and a projector with tons of slides. I remember my dad looking at them. Two Little girls were on them. My dad told me that they were Ray's children, but they did not talk to him anymore. That's about all I know. Frances my great grandma is still alive! She has been a bit ill, and in the hospital. The doctors are not sure how much longer she has. I don't know if you know anything about my grandma Vera, but i'm trying to locate her father's past. If you know my Nana. you would know she had a wild past. My grandma died only knowing her father's first name. So this is why I've been researching. I am going to send you some of the pictures i have of ray. Please feel free to call me anytime. 540-845-8343.
