    2. <<Also from the Rabun Co. 1840 census were: Frederick Dover with 6 males under 20, 1 over 20 (would that be Frederick?). Living beside him is: Bailey Dover with 1 male up to 50 years (Bailey?) and 1 female between 50-60, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 40-50. Several houses away was another Bailey Dover - in house is 1 male up 20-30 years, and 1 female under 5 years, and 1 female 20-30 years.>> Janelle, this one is "big." Did you see an original record which showed another Bailey Dover living near the elder Bailey in Rabun or was it a transcription you saw? I've seen the 1840 Rabun census on microfilm. It's a weird first name but appears to be RIAL. That name never shows up before or after 1840. A couple of us with Buncombe roots wonder if it's ROYAL ... there was one. Here's something else from Habersham which probably also related to Rabun County: Index to Georgia Poor School & Academy Records, 1826-1850, Image 12 dated 1834: Ava Dover, Bailey Dover, John Dover, Leander Dover, Liney Dover & Cassy Dover Poor schools were "public schools." There's at least four names here I don't connect with anyone and three which are very common given names in my family ... Bailey, John and Leander. This Bailey is either my Bailey born 1817 in North Carolina or he's yet a fourth Bailey. The third Bailey was the son of Frederick and Margaret Dover from Buncombe who I suspect was living next door to the elder Bailey in Rabun who was born abt. 1792 SC and who WAS in Buncombe before going to Rabun. I'm tempted to blurt out a very weak theory, but won't now. Francis J. Dover had a daughter named Susan who married a John W. GUNTER. I can't prove who it is, but there was a John W. GUNTER living next door to Bailey Dover (the elder), Frederick Dover and Rial/Bailey Dover in 1840 Rabun County. I've learned the hard way not to believe in coincidences until they are proven :-) A comment on transcription. My Bailey Dover was in Poinsett County, Arkansas in 1870. Every published transcription shows him as KERY. The microfilm comes off at best as KERY. It is Bailey Appleton Dover by a variety of proven records. Think Marjorie on our list is about the only other family researcher who has spent time chasing my Bailey's father John who was in Cherokee County, Georgia by 1836. Can't explain it but think my John got into Georgia earlier than it appears. The record I think Janelle also posted: Dover, Bailey, 2nd Lieutenant Cherokee County (old Cherokee before the Removal?), April 12, 1835. If that's my Bailey he would have been 22 years old. Can't be a 42 year old Bailey the elder (that's a question) and certainly not Bailey #3 at 4 years old. I accept the idea that officers were appointed politically in the county militia's (they all had one) so this could be Bailey the elder who was a circuit court judge in Rabun. There's more I'll throw out later. Dennis
