Here's my family: JOHN DOVER was born abt. 1793 in SC, and died Abt. 1879. This John DOVER "thought" to have been born in Pendleton, SC and moved with parents to Buncombe, NC by 1820 (these are my current theories). It's possible that this is the John DOVER who sold to Jeptha DOVER in Buncombe. John is "thought" to have been in Cherokee County, Georgia 1836-1842. The children of John DOVER below come from the age groupings in the 1840 Cherokee County, Georgia census AND 1830 Buncombe County, North Carolina. If so, son #1 would have been a head of household in 1840. John DOVER was in Randolph County, Alabama in 1850. Son Bailey was in Coosa County, Alabama in 1850 (next door). Children of JOHN DOVER are: i. SON, b. Bet. 1815 - 1820, NC. ii. BAILEY APPLETON DOVER, b. 1817, Buncombe Co., NC; d. April 24, 1890, Greene Co., AR; m. MARTHA ANN FIELDING, Abt. 1840 iii. DAUGHTER, b. Bet. 1820 - 1825, NC. iv. SON, b. Bet. 1825 - 1830. v. LUCINDA DOVER, b. 1829, NC; m. (1) ASA (?) ORR; m. (2) COOPER BENNETT. vi. LEMUEL B. DOVER, b. 1832, NC; d. Bef. 1880; m. CLEMENTINE. Lemuel & Clementine DOVER left Alabama abt. 1858 and went to Mississippi with a group of families from Tallapoosa County, Alabama .... MADDEN, NELSON, ANDREWS, SHARP. Generation #1: John DOVER b abt 1793 SC d by 1879 Madison or Jackson Co., AL. Wife unknown, but John was widowed or divorced after 1840 and by 1850. Probably in Cherokee Co., GA 1840. Was in Randolph Co., AL in 1850 (this census says he was b 1799 NC) with Lemuel and Lucinda at home. Living with daughter Lucinda DOVER ORR BENNETT in 1870 Madison Co., AL (Cooper BENNETT). Generation #2: Bailey Appleton DOVER b 1817 NC d 1890 Greene Co., AR. Wife Martha Ann "Patsy" FIELDING b 1822 GA d abt 1886 Greene Co., AR. Family was in Coosa Co., AL in 1850 and Blount Co., AL 1860+. Was in Poinsett Co., AR 1870 before moving to Greene Co., AR by 1880. Generation #3: Andrew L. DOVER b 1847 GA/AL d 1896 Greene Co., AR. Wife Tennessee Virgina YATES b 1860 TN d 1929 Greene Co., AR. Andrew died from a snake bite.
