The patent for land where he first lived on the Catawba River is dated Aug. 30, 1753 (part of which he conveyed to James Leeper in 1762.) On September 24, 1754 he patented other land on the Catawba; and in May 1769, a tract in the fork of Long Creek and Still House Branch, near present Dallas, NC where he lived until after the Battle of Kings Mountain. In 1782 he sold parts of this tract and moved to a new home on Kings Creek in South Carolina. >> There was a James LEEPER in Mecklenburg. His wife died by 1801. This LEEPER family is also said to be in Lincoln County. On the earlier post about the deeds, John STROUD was a witness along with John DOVER. I can't find STROUD in Mecklenburg yet but there was a bunch of them including three John (STROUD's) in early Orange County, North Carolina. Two of them were born early 1700's. Most of them are gone before long and two STROUD's, including one John STROUD, do appear in the 1778 Camden District which included York. Camden included six counties. Here's a selection of names from the 1778 Camden list: CLOUD, William COLLINS, Hezikiah COLLINS, Isaac COLLINS, Joseph COLLINS, Joshua COLLINS, William CROSS, Edward DOVER, John JENKINS, Francis JENKINS, Thomas W.
