He was a son of Wanda Dover of Cave City, Ark., and the late Johnnie Ray Erwin. He was the fiance of Frances Robinson, with whom he resided. A graduate of the University of California at Sacramento, he was a certified licensed optician. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Erwin enjoyed leather working, motorcycling, kickboxing and football. He was also interested in veteran's affairs issues.
