Allen Joseph Pontiff Sr., 70, a native of New Orleans and resident of Houma, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998. Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m.to funeral time Thursday at the Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Allen "Flip" Pontiff Jr. of Raceland, and Michael James Pontiff of Houma; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Odile) Deroche of Chauvin, Mrs. Glenn (Evelyn) Folse of Raceland, and Mrs. Daniel (Annette) Deroche of Houma; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Marie Pontiff Pontiff; his parents, Joseph and Dover Leonard Pontiff; one son, Joseph Paul Pontiff; and one sister, Odile M. Pontiff. He was a salesman for Landry's Lazy Boy Furniture, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 5546, a third degree member of Holy Rosary, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3700, and an usher and parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
