Laura, The only 1840 Tennessee census index names for GAMBLIN are: Maury County, James M. Gamblin, p 318 Sumner County, James Gamblin, p 368 The 1840 census index excludes surnames I thru Z. There are no CASSINGER type spellings, so if the Kassinger's were with the Gamblins (I assume they were), they would have been listed in the missing "K" spelling group. There are GAMBLIN entries for Georgia and Alabama.
