Hi Dennis, Being from the south, I do know that there are MANY different versions of the "Southern Drawl" that vary from state to state. I first ran across this when I moved to NC, from Chattanooga, Tenn. The drawl was so different I had a hard time understanding them, as they did me. I have been sitting here saying my name over and over(No I'm not nutts:-)), trying to figure out if what you suspect is possible. I would imagine it is. When I say it, it does come out as a Dover, but I have been away for a long time now. What happens when I say it , is similar to what some people accuse us of saying instead of DOG it comes out DAWG. My Dover comes out as something that could easily be spelled DOWVER, which could also be spelled DAWVER, with some southerners having a lot of nasal tone to their voices it could twist it a little . Or, I would imagine, DOEVER with the first part sounding like the word Doe as in deer, depending on the person listening and writing it down. Not sure if that helps or not, but is my two cents worth. Deaver also equals DEVER and DEVER is a possible written transcription error for DOVER. This has haunted me for a long time.
