According to several Gamblin researchers, it is believed that all the Dover's listed on the 1850 Ripley Co., MO census are Mary Ann Gamblin's children from her previous marriage to a "Mr. Dover".... Mary Ann was a widow. Looking at the birth dates and places, it seems this Dover family would have been in Arkansas in 1840, and TN before that - but I only know of Thompson Dover being in the right places at the right time. They don't seem to quite fit in with him. Does anyone know of other Dover's in Arkansas around this time? Or a Dover man who died 1843-1850? Can't find a marriage record for William Gamblin and Mary Ann Dover. William was born in 1794 SC and had been married twice before - Marian Greathouse in 1815 and Betsy Bond in 1823, both in Hopkins Co., KY. He was in Wayne and White Co., IL around 1840. This family is of great interest to me because my Thomas Jefferson Dover married a girl who lived nearby the Gamblin's.....less than 3 years after the census was taken.
