I ran across the following Posted by June Sarte <sarte@sunline.net> on Sat, 06 Feb 1999, in response to Potter/Gamblin, posted by Laura Cooper on Sun, 24 Jan 1999 Is this Mary familiar to anyone? :)pam >Surnames: Potter, Gamblin, Dover, Greathouse I am a descendant of the Potter family of Warren Co KY. My gr gr grandfather Alonzo Potter's Parents(Daniel Potter and Nancy Greathouse) were married in Warren Co KY and after their death Alonzo and his sibling were raised by their grandfather Lewis Potter. Alonzo married Pencelle(Pencilia) Gamblin in Hamilton Co IL in 1840. I believe she may be the daughter of William Gamblin but have no proof as yet. William and Alonzo both owned land in neighboring Wayne co. IL in the same time period and later (1850) they were neighbors in Ripely Co. MO. It is believed by other Gamblin researchers that the Dover children you see listed in the 1850 Ripley Co MO census were the children of the wife of William Gamblin, Mary Dover by a previous marriage. Pencelle Gamblin Potter died in 1853 and is buried in Richardson Cemetery, near Owensville, Gasconade MO. Alonzo married Mrs Eliza Gamblin (also on the 1850 Ripley Co MO census) in 1853 after Pencelle's death. I would like more information about these Gamblin women and their relationship to William Gamblin and his wife Mary Dover.
