    2. Here is info on my great-grandpa, John Abel Dover's CSA records: He joined th 7th AL Calvary, Co A, Confederate Army 25 May 1863 in Randolph County, formed by Capt T.C. Randolph, for duration of the war. He appears on the muster rolls for the periods of: May 25 - Oct 31 1863; Oct 31 to Dec 31 1863. On the muster roll for April 30 - June 30 1864, he is listed as "Absent" - Remarks: "Been prisoner since April 2, 1864. Under Special Orders No 73 of Hq Dist of West Florida, Barrancas, April 3d, 1864, he was captured on the 2nd of April in an engagement on the Pensacola road, four miles from the Big Bayou, by Capt Schmidt, Co M, 14th NY Cav, with 30 of his men. [John Abel was a Private].He was transported to Ft Pickens, FL for confinement, then transported to New Orleans, LA about 10 Apr 1864. He is shown on the roll of Prisoners at New Orleans, 7 Jul 1864, transferred to Ship Island, MS on 5 Oct 1864, and sent to New York on 5 Nov 1864, and imprisoned at Elmira, NY on19 Nov 1864.
