Mr. Cummings was born December 18, 1931, in Kansas City, KS. He retired in 1977 as a Hod Carrier for a masonry construction company. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra S. Blevins on November 28, 1986, and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Dover on August 9, 1996. Survivors include his ex-wife, Betty Cummings, Raytown, MO; one son, Jeff Cummings, Independence, MO; three daughters, Louise Fensom, Kansas City, MO, Pam Bell, Raytown, MO, and Kim Meyer, Independence, MO; one brother, Richard Cummings, Reno, NV; one sister, Jenny Dover, Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe; with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Paola, KS. Friends may call 7-8 p.m. Monday at Wilson and Son, Paola, with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Olathe Medical Center. Mr. Dempsey was born September 26, 1921, in Fontana, KS, to John Garrett and Beulah A. (Harbour) Dempsey. He was a Master Equipment Chief in the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1969, after 27 years of service. He married Beverly ``Jean'' Carruthers on January 26, 1946, in Atchison, KS. He was a member of Paola VFW, Fleet Reserve Association, Olathe Trail Riders and Mid-America Saddle Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; two sons, John G. Dempsey, W. Palm Beach, FL, and Michael D. Dempsey, Blue Springs, MO; one daugh - ter, Anna Marie Dempsey, Dallas, TX; one sister, Anna Bell Cassidy, Rantoul, KS; and two grandchildren.
