"Jake" Dover, 98, of 402 Franklin Ave., died Sunday, July 8, 2001, at his home. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Rebecca Lowery Dover. He retired as yarn room supervisor with Dover Mill and was a member of Dover Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Kendrick Dover; three brothers, Hugh Dover, Brady Dover and Bobby Dover; and a sister, Ruby Ponder. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Ruth Dover of Lattimore and Gerald D. and Barbara Dover of Shelby; a brother, Carl Dover of Shelby; five grandsons, David Dover, Donald Dover, John Dover, Robert Dover and Jeffrey Dover; a granddaughter, Rachel Dover; two special friends, Essie Robbins and Isabelle Rippy; and 10 great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dover Baptist Church, 1501 Polkville Road, Shelby, NC 28150.
