    3. Chronological List of Bigfoot Sightings 1818-1980 This list gives in abbreviated form details of all the Bigfoot sighting reports we have been able to find. The date of the sighting is given first, followed by the location, the witnesses, a description of the events, and finally the source of the report. The primary sources are given where known, together with those books and magazines where further information is most easily accessible to the reader. The most interesting cases mentioned here are described in more detail in chapters 1-8 of this book, and the chapter number following the brief description in this list shows where a fuller treatment can be found. We have sometimes quoted extensively from original sources, and in such cases the quoted passage comes from the first source listed. The word 'Bigfoot' used in the following descriptions means simply that a bipedal creature looking like a big, hair-covered man-beast was seen; it does not imply any positive identification of the creature by the witness or investigator.
