Did they talk like this old store ledger was the manuscript that they had? The lady in Odessa, TX was probably Lorena (Joplin) Womble who was a step granddau of Jesse through his 5th wife Mrs Martha Ann (Sharpe) Chote who had children before they married. Mrs Womble died in 1998. The original ledger was supposed to be in the museum at the Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX in 1967 when a couple of researchers were able to obtain a notarized copy of pages from the ledger listing the ancestors of Jesse M Green. The ledger had previously been in the possession of Ode Norris Green, a grandson of Jesse, who lived in Big Spring, TX at some time prior to the 1967 date as Mrs McCrary had remembered seeing it there. It was a grandson of Ode Norris Green who went and obtained a copy of these pages for these researchers at that time. I'm not sure if Ode Norris Green was the person who gave it to the museum -- I only know that it was in his home sometime prior to 1967. He had been dead for only a few days when these researchers wrote to him and his grandson went and made the copy of those pages for them. It is this old store ledger itself that we have been hunting for as it is supposed to be the original work of Jesse Mercer Green. Mrs Womble submitted what has become Version # 2 of the memoirs to a newsletter in AR before her death that contained more flowery descriptions and added info not found in the transcript that was done by Mrs Alline McCrary as Version # 1. My impression from what I have been told is that neither version of the transcriptions that we have seen so far covers the entire ledger book. Mrs Womble's version was much shorter than that done by Mrs McCrary and did not cover as much time period. At some later date after 1967 is when Mrs McCrary did her transcription. She is also now deceased. 1920 JOHNSTON CO, OK Green, Jessie?? I didn't write down the name of the contributor. Seems like the librarian said Mrs. Roy something. She definitely said "of Odessa, TX" [email protected] wrote: > In a message dated 1/7/2004 3:05:08 PM Central Standard Time, > [email protected] writes: > > > I've arranged to have the entire manuscript copied.
