    1. [Dover] Shaderick Dover Notes
    2. We were working on updating some of the York Co families again a few months ago. Dennis, BJ & I have been working together on this area for years. The people who have worked with us on this York project has varied depending on the subject and what is being discussed. A number of other Dover researchers have contributed to what we know about this area. Most recently in the following notes it was Dennis Dover, Bobbie Jean Frank, Janelle Dixon & I who were looking at some of this info again. I keep running notes on a lot of these Dover people as new bits & pieces of info turn up. I will emphasize that these are NOTES --- nothing at this stage is ever concrete as it could always change with additional info. There is usually a lot of back and forth discussions as we use each other as a sounding board and this is a method that has worked well for us as we've tried to figure out and separate these York Co Dover. One of the things that I have learned from Janelle, Sharon R, Carol Anne Ledford and Jean McSwain who are all familiar with this area of the Kings Mt Battleground that we have been looking at is sort of the lay of the land. The Kings Mt Battleground Park of today runs right up to the NC - SC border in SC. Cleveland Co, NC sounds like it may be far away, but in reality it is only the other side of the road from the Park. This area that we are looking at was once part of Tryon Co, NC then divided into NC & SC and then later the border was changed somewhat as the counties began to take formation in that area. Hambright property at one time was actually on both sides of the NC - SC border. Hambright is important to the story of York Co because we know from the old Hambright Bible record that the # 2 wife of Col Frederick Hambright of Rev War fame was Mary (DOVER) Hambright whose father was JOHN DOVER. Mary (Dover) Hambright was b 1762. This is about all that we can tell you to date about Shaderick Dover and his family that appears in the 1850 census, which isn't much. We knew from previous research that a Mary Dover was md to James Kuykendall Hambright and they were the parents of Bate Hambright that is discussed in the Dover Gen. We were trying to figure out just who this Mary Dover was ---- NOTES:  9/9/2003 The next candidate for Mary Dover / James K Hambright looks more promising.  Her age matches, so see what you think  --- 1850 York County, South Carolina M432-860 Page 244 (Ancestry Image 160)     #1292/1292 Shadarick Dover    55    [1795]    SC (York)    Laborer Elizabeth              40    [1810]    SC (York) Margaret               16    [1834]    SC (York) Mary                    14    [1836]    SC (York)  -- md James Kuykendall Hambright? James Hambright md Rebecca Carroll were parents of James K Hambright. NOTE: Hambright info in the above is from the Hambright book by Bonnie Summers, a descendant. *********************************** Additional info  9/10/2003  ---- DD has found the missing 1860 & 1870 census for James K Hambright.  Frederick & Mary were the children of Shad.  That's James Kuykendall Hambright as her husband.  That's the Bate Hambright that the Dover Gen says owns the place where John Dover settled after coming back and finding someone else running his old mill.  James K Hambright is still right there with his parents.  Don't you just love these people that stay put? 1850 York County, South Carolina M432-860 Page 244 (Ancestry Image 160) #1292/1292 Shadarick Dover 55 [1795] SC (York) Laborer Elizabeth             40 [1810] SC (York) Margaret             16 [1834] SC (York) Mary                   14 [1836] SC (York)  -- md James K Hambright Frederick             12 [1838] SC (York)  -- 1860 census Martha                 11 [1839] SC (York) James                 10 [1840] SC (York) -- 1860 census?? James Beatty Hambright aka Bate Hambright was the owner of the Dover property at the time that the Dover Gen was written.  Now all we need to do is figure out when the Gen was written and what land Bate owned at that time and we'll know exactly were the Dover property was.  OK, so I know we're still a long way from that, but at least it's more info than we had before and we are beginning to put a family together for Shad which is an improvement.  While we are on Shad, don't forget that Shaderick Dover signed one of those court records with Hez back in 1819 when Hez & Michael beat the heck out of Bershiber (Dover) Martin's husband Manning Martin.     ************************************* >From what Dennis posted to the list the other day --- 1870 Cleveland County, North Carolina Census M593-1131 Page 97B (Ancestry Image 191) #171/173 Shadrack Dover    70 [1800] SC Elizabeth         40 [1830] NC William Wilson    05 [1865] NC 1880 Cleveland County, North Carolina Census T9-958 Rippys, Cleveland County, North Carolina Page 483A    Elizabeth Dover    Self    F W W 50 [1830] NC Keeping House Fa: NC Mo: NC William Dover    Other    M S W 14 [1866] GA             Fa: NC Mo: NC NOTE: Elizabeth here would be the widow of Shaderick Dover.
