I have a Lafayette as the closest I have in that family to a Luther name. I do have a William F. though. I went back and looked at the link I sent to the list again to find the time frame thinking it may help me figure out some things and noticed it lists three different initial sets.I had not noticed that at first. I am not sure if one is a transposition or if the JP and JL are one and the same person. This is confusing me although that is not that hard to do. Thanks again. Although there are still lots of unanswered questions about the children of William and Alanthey, the information below comes from census records, from marriage records, from deed records of several counties, from cemeteries, death certificates, and from the indian applications and affidavits of Alanthey Chambers Dover and some of her children and most especially, from my "cousins" on the Dover List. (1) Georgia Bennett, (2) Mrs. Vinie Brown. ================================ About John Luther, specifically, at the time of the 1870 census, William and his family are listed on the census for Lumpkin County, Auraria. William says he was born in North Carolina and is 54 years old (he said he was 31 in 1850). His wife, Alantha, is keeping house and is 46 years old. Their son William, who was 6 in 1860, is now 14 (should be 16). Their son John L., born since the last census, is listed as being 12. He was not on the 1860 census, so could only be 10 or less. No mention is made of the Mary M.E. who was age 1 on the last census. This may be the same as Hulda--the name Mahulda being shortened to Hulda. Hulda is listed as age 10, but since we know her older brother, John L. wasn't on the last census and could only be 10 or less, we must assume that Hulda was at least 2 years younger than him Or that she is the Mary M.E. on the earlier census, and John's age is wrong. Another son, Richard, is listed as age 9, but we must also assume that he was at least a year younger. A new Mary, Mary A, is age 6, and is the baby.
