Marjorie, I think that the 1820 "Shared" Dover in York Co, SC is more likely Shaderick Dover who was md to Jemima Martin. They were living next door to Michael Martin / Morning Manning who was next door to Manning Martin / Bershiber Dover. All the named Martins were related. Would have to do some digging to be positive, but off the top of my head I'm thinking that Michael Martin was the father of Manning & Jemima Martin. Maybe Dennis can clarify this? Sherrod J Dover does not show up on his own ("Sherwood" Dover) until 1830 Rutherford Co, NC as 20-30 born 1800-1810 and married with no children. The 1820 York listing shows 16-26 born 1794-1804 and married with a male child born 1810 - 1820 (child was Morgan Dover b ca 1819) which would fit with the known information for Shaderick Dover (b ca 1795). Shaderick Dover remained in the York Co, SC area. Sharon S
Life was so much simpler with an old set of theories that could not be proved or disproved before some of the DNA results came out that threw everything to the wind. My thoughts about the Sherrod, Shaderich, Shared names. I agree that Shared is probably Shaderick/Shade of York. Shared/Shaderick was somehow connected with Hezekiah Dover because I think he is the one mentioned in the pre-1820 York court records with Hezekiah, Michael and Frederick. Sherod (not Shadrick), I think, was too young to be mentioned in that court record, but he could be a brother(?) to Shaderick, Michael and Frederick also named in the same court record with Hezekiah. Then Hezekiah, Sherod, Michael and Frederick were in Rutherford County, North Carolina by 1830 when they showed up in the census. Shaderick never left York or went far from home. Mike and Fred were in one militia district while Hezekiah and Sherod were in the White Oak Mountain/White Oak Creek. Possibly all lived close together in 1830. Sherod Dover leaves the White Oak area just after 1830 and heads for Texas about the same time another Dover was married in the White Oak area in 1830. This was the marriage of Francis Marion Dover to Mary Bailey. I've always thought that Francis Marion was a son of Hezekiah because of time and place ... that's five possible of seven 1820 sons mentioned in this message. It doesn't help much but we also know that two descended related Dover families of Francis Marion and Frederick (& Jane) have a "Ky" as an ancestor. Now everything goes sideways, at least for me. Eric Dover and I match up perfectly on the 12 marker DNA test. Eric is a descendant of Francis Marion Dover born about 1799 SC. I am a descendant of John Dover born about 1793 SC/NC. We have a common ancestor .... who/how???? It seems like from the DNA that Francis Marion and John should be brothers by age and the way some of these DNA markers are matching or not matching up. Could my John be a son of Hezekiah Dover afterall ... and John left York before the 1820 census and went straight to Pendleton or Buncombe? John's son Bailey was born in 1817. Bailey and his sons all said that he/Bailey was born in North Carolina. The only Dover's in a North Carolina census in 1820 were in Buncombe County including a John Dover (Jr). I still have to believe that my Bailey was born in Buncombe County. I just checked all of the 1820 North Carolina censuses again (line by line). No other 1820 Dover's in the familiar counties. I also suspect that Bailey's father John was born in the Pendleton District of South Carolina or was living there in the 1800 and/or 1810 census with his parents. Looks like either Francis Marion was born in Pendleton or my John was born in York. Francis Marion disconnects with Hezekiah or my John connects with Hezekiah ... or do they connect with another Dover who was kin to Francis J. Dover. Totally more baffling after all this time.
Dennis are you talking about the Shadrick (Sp?) b 1795 (temple baptism LDS 17 Jan 1989) that is a brother to my Asa Dover b1801 York SC? If so, wouldn't that make him a son of Elijah b 1770. I had thought this Shadrick was Asa's son (although there is still a possibility he had a son by this name) until I found this Shadrick in Ancestry.com. Marie
Marie, I'm not sure how to answer your question. In Part, I show in my notes/ hunches that Shaderick could be both the son of Elijah and Hezekiah. The following piece of the court record is part of the assault & battery charges filed against Hezekiah, Michael, Frederick and Shadrick Dover by Mannin Martin husband of Bershiber Dover. Obviously there's two Shad's because Morgan Dover in the deed is remembered as Morgan Shade Dover ... from memory I think. Maybe Sharon can help out here. I've always personally believed that the court case by Mannin Martin involved Hezekiah, his sons and his daughter Bershiber. An interesting question if Shaderick was not a son of Hezekiah and perhaps a nephew.
