Dennis, I've looked at the test results for daddy and can you help me to understand some of this. One can you tell me which person is connected to the Thomas J. Dover. I have a Thomas Dover relative that was my ggfather Jason's brother. So from this test it looks like Derek,Charles and Max's family and mine are very close family. Do you think that Fred and Francis were brothers? I know my questions are probably out in left field, but I'm trying to piece all of this together. Would appreciate any help you can give me. Take care and God Bless. Phillis, we have a list member for the ancestors of Derek who is not on Dover-L as far as I know. The others can respond because they are on the list. The fact that your DNA connects more closely to these members than me is a surprise to me because I think/thought my John was the neighbor of Fred, Elijah and Elijah in 1830 Buncombe and there's never been any indication that Frederick (married to Margaret) had any connection with the family of Francis J. Dover or his only proven brother Hezekiah. Ironically, my DNA matches closely with your family and that of FJD. I also think your Frederick Dover was the neighbor of Bailey Dover in 1840 Rabun County ... and that Bailey was (could have been) the elder brother of the Buncombe Dover's in 1830 Buncombe. Robert on the list recently made reference to a book called Sketches of Rabun County that contained Dover names. One of those in the index was Bailey Dover (1840 Rabun census) and the book says that another neighbor of Bailey, Sharrod Dover (another), was not related to Bailey. Sherrod was Sherrod Washington Dover son of Frederick & JANE Dover from 1850 Lumpkin County, Georgia who should be the same Frederick Dover mentioned in the 1819 York Co., SC court record with Hezekiah Dover proven brother of Francis J. Dover. FJD was living just a few miles away in Habersham County, Georgia at the time of Bailey's 1840 census (Bailey never left Rabun after arriving from Buncombe). The DNA results prove I think that the story in Sketches is not true. One unproven possibility with the DNA is that your Frederick might be a nephew of Francis J. Dover. We really need more DNA from York descendants. I realize that a lot of the list members aren't able to take the DNA, but "please," look for a living male Dover in/from the York area. They may know who their families were in the early or late 1800's. There's enough resources on our list that we can probably take their ancestry back even further. Right now I'm thinking about Shaderick Dover or any of the family of Morgan Dover. The DNA results for a proven descendant of Michael & Malinda Dover are due 1-18-04. It's all bewildering ... Hi Patricia, This Thomas that you tell about is to old to be the Thomas that I have in my line of Dover's. The Thomas in my line was born the 1870's in Gilmer County and his father was Dillon or Dillingham Dover. I wish that I could be of some help with the Thomas that you have. Thanks for the information anyway. Take care and God Bless.
