My Leon Dover who tested for Elijah Benson Dover b 1817 SC is an exact match in the 12 marker to Max Anthony, Charles Raymand, Francis C Jr, Derek Alan, Jason Gordon, Larry Joe and Paul Dover. There is a 1 step mutation with Dennis, Marjorie's, Edward Eric, Charles Edward and David L. Dover In the 25 marker Leon is a 1 step mutation to Max Anthony, Charles Raymond, Derek Alan, Jason Gordon, Larry Joe and Paul Dover. There is a 2 step mutation with Dennis, Marjorie's, and David L Dover. I was surprised that Leon's DNA did not match all the way across with all the others that should be in his group. Instead, he is showing 1 different number in column 20. Does anyone understand what that might mean or even if it is significant? Leon is in a rather unique position because of the age of Elijah Benson Dover at the birth of Leon's father Milton N Dover. Leon is the grandson of Elijah Benson Dover b 1817. His relationship, as far as number of generations, is much closer to the actual person than many of the others who have tested are to their known ancerstor. Would this account for a possible difference in this one marker? Sharon S
I would suggest you look at the Genealogy-DNA rootsweb list archives for one step mutations in a group. From what I can understand (I am not positive of the relationships you mention) but you may have the actual DNA line through Leon and you may be seeing a mutation with the others. What I mean is Leon may have the actual DNA for this line that you are trying to follow and there may have been a mutation in the other's line. Some groups have seen mutations between father's and son's. From my understanding they are finding that certain surname groups may mutate more often than others. I hope that helps a bit and the Genealogy-DNA archives has quite a bit of information on about any topic with DNA.
