Here's one part of Ernest's comments. Stephen Dover mentioned by Marcus Dover in the 1939 letter was the son of Francis Marion Dover and Mary Bailey. They were married in Rutherford Co., NC in 1830. Stephen is confirmed as a son in the will of Francis Marion Dover dated 1877. Stephen born 1837 GA (Gilmer/Pickens Co) Census 1840 Gilmer Co., GA 1850 Gilmer Co., GA 1860 Gilmer Co., GA 1870 Jackson, Jackson Co., IN 1880 Poplar Bluff, Butler Co., MO Apparently died before 1900 My Grandparents in Greene County, Arkansas took me on a trip to St. Louis many years ago. We stopped in Poplar Bluff to visit a Dover family that grandpa said were kin. To this day I have never found any of Grandpa's family that would have been in Poplar Bluff at that time and whoever they were they were not Grandpa's immediate family in Paragould. One of the girls at work years ago here in California was from Sikeston and knew Dover kids when she was growing up there. -----Original Message----- From: Earnest Dovers [mailto:edovers2@cox.net] Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2006 8:32 AM To: DOVER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Dover] Giles Dover/Missouri Pami thanks for all your hard work. My name is Earnest Dovers from Sikeston, MO. now living in Tucson, AZ. There was three set of Dovers in and around Sikeston . one was the descendants of Philip Dover of which Giles and Jack his son. I knew of Jacks uncle Harry as a boy and my dad Harvey Dovers though he was a cousin but could never make a connection. My dad and I are descendants of Thompson Dover from Ill that married Louisianna Spence July 4, 1850 and again married Elizabeth Hanks may 09, 1853 and I'm stuck at that point. I'm searching for the father of Thompsom Dover. 1850 thompson was living in Jackson County, Ill 10-8-1850 pg. 207g206-207 living with Louisianna age 20. Thompson age 25 his name is spelled Thomson his father is from Tenn.1860 living Hamilton county, Lovilla p.o. Ill. with Elizabeth. Marion Francis age 4, Jasper N age 3, Mary Ellen Age 2. the third Dover was Madison Dover and at the time Madison, Jasper, Marion all lived within 10 miles of each other. I'm trying to make connection but can not at this time.
