I believe that most of these are the descendants of Samuel Dover and Susan Collins. Thomas C. was born about 1840 to Susan and Samuel. He married Nancy Ross (I believe). In 1870, they were in Polk County, TN, District 4. Thomas was 28, a farm laborer, Nancy C. was 26. Their children were Samuel 3, James A. 2, and Charles T. 2 months. In 1880, Nancy C. was alone, age 34, living in Whitfield County at Tunnel Hill. Children were James E. 12, Charles T. 10, Mary S.C. 8, and John A. 5 (making Thomas' death after 1874). Also living with them was Mary Ross, age 79, "mother". The sons were working on the farm. The only census record we have had posted on the Dover list for Robert L. Dover is the 1930 census. A number of Dover researchers have been searching for the 1920 census (just before Madison died), and have not found the family on any census. 1930 Joppa, Pct. 21, Cullman Co., AL 4-7-1930, pg. 37A 54-55 General T. His parents were Madison M. Dover and Francis L. Gilliland. Her parents were Rosa Dell Beck and James (or Joseph, depending on which census you look at) Freeman. We know that based on her brothers and sisters being in census listings with them. They were both born in Cullman County Alabama. 4615@bellsouth.net wrote:Barbara, can you tell us who Robert Dover's father was and/or where he was born? Levi Anderson Belton Dover had a daugher named Mary Isabella Priscilla Dover, b. January 1878, died November 2, 1948. Mary married Benjamin H. Charles on November 1, 1893. Levi's wife was Mary Ann DeBord, and she is the Mary Dover that died on January 26, 1914, when she was preparing to leave Tennessee to come home. It looks like she received a pension because of Anderson B. (Levi Anderson Belton) Dover and his service in the Confederate Army. We last find Mary Ann Dover in 1910 in Polk County, TN, taken on April 22, 1910. She is listed as 64, a widow, married 45 years, with 9 children and 8 living. All were born in Georgia. Living with her was her son Belton Dover, 25 years old, and a laborer. Barbara, can you tell us who Robert Dover's father was and/or where he was born? http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/surnames.moss/24.33 (May 2003) (Edwina Ard) I know this message was posted very long ago, but I have found in the 1860 census of York Co., SC, New House Division, household # 30, the family of John and Louisa Moss having children Pinkney, D.N., Henry, Surphiemia, John and Robert E. (age 9 months-born 1859-60). In household #31 is the family of Zephaniah and Allaia Dover. I think this may be the family you are looking for, but there were several Moss families in York Co., SC. I also have an interest in this family as I think D.N. may actually be A.N. (Alexander Nance Moss). Alexander Nance was in AR by 1875 and was a carpenter known for his trim work. Quite a coincidence when you consider the Zephaniah Dover was listed on the census as a master carpenter.
Unfortunately I couldn't see the actual deed to check it out. This info came from the grantee deed index, and it looked to me like 1814 (it was a microfilm). It might turn out to be 1819, but won't know until someone checks the actual deed in Habersham since the Archives didn't have this set of books. It looked like this was an attempt to "fix" something pertaining to the seizure, and may have something to do with how Thomas Cross got his land back.
