I forgot to write down the source for this info. I will do that tonight when I go to the library. If anyone needs it, let me know. and I will share it with you. This should be a Tennessee marriage record I believe. Dover, J.D. to Jane Gentry-issued March 2, 1841 by Benjamin Rawls, G.C. March 3, 1841 Robertson County

Williamson County, Tennessee is next door to Maury County. The 1830 census index shows: DEVORE, James p 181 DIVORE, Sands p 237
Forgot to add this marriage record for Robertson County, Tennessee: J. D. Dover & Jane Gentry March 2, 1841
Laura, Sumner County, Tennessee is right next door to Robertson County up on the state line. This is a Robertson County census that has always baffled me because of the DOVER name and a number of APPLETON's which are more scarce than DOVER's. Bailey APPLETON Dover was my 2nd great grandfather that you and several others noticed in the Fathers of the Ridge for Greene County, Arknasas. Laura, The only 1840 Tennessee census index names for GAMBLIN are: Maury County, James M. Gamblin, p 318 Sumner County, James Gamblin, p 368 The 1840 census index excludes surnames I thru Z. There are no CASSINGER type spellings, so if the Kassinger's were with the Gamblins (I assume they were), they would have been listed in the missing "K" spelling group. There are GAMBLIN entries for Georgia and Alabama.

Dover/Gamblin In reference to the Dover children living with the Gamblin's in Ripley County, MO 1850 (recently posted)...... Gamblin researchers believe all 5 children belong to Mary Ann, wife of William Gamblin (house # 229). William married Mary Ann Dover, a widow, sometime between 1843 and 1850, place unknown. I am hoping someone can help me figure out who Mary Ann's first husband was by reviewing the following: Mary Ann was born abt 1797 in MD. She married ? Dover and had William K 1832 TN, James M 1836 TN, Jesse 1837 AR, Henry P 1840 AR, and Lillaoma 1843 AR. Suspect there were older children also. She married William Gamblin 1843-1850. William was born 1794 NC, the son of Joshua Gamblin. William was married 2 times before. 1st to Marian Greathouse in 1815, 2nd to Betsy Bond in 1823. William Gamblin was living in Hopkins County, KY 1820 and Calloway County, KY 1830. By 1840, he was in southern IL. By 1847, he was in Ripley County, MO. Any thoughts will be appreciated, as this has become more of a guessing game than anything! Thank You! Laura ==== DOVER Mailing List ==== http://pages.cthome.net/familytree/ Subscribe instructions

I received this from Will Langley. He is the one that I posted his earlier email. This is an extract of a claim filed by Mary T. Dover, Wife of William, to prove that she was of Cherokee descent and entitled to a portion of the $1,000,000 appropriated by Congress in 1902 for payment of claims. "My name is Mary T. Dover. I live at 1600 McCullugh Ave. I claim through my mother, who was Eliza A. Reed, she was married to W.A.Whitice. My grandfather on my mother's was part cherokee Indian. My grandfather lived in Stokes county, N.C. He was living in Stokes County 1834-135 to best of my knowledge. My mother was recognized as a white woman. My grandfather on my Mother's side was recognized as Indian, Cherokee Indian, descendent of the Cheerokees. My Grandfather did not live with the Cherokee tribe, but lived in the vicinity. I got my information from my Mother. My mother never never lived with the tribe. My mother was about 20 years old when I was born. I was born in 1846. If my Mother was ever enrolled, I never knew it. My mother was dead in 18882. I was living in Duckville, Tn., in 1882. I was never enrolled. I have no other source of information to the effect that I have Eastern Cherokee blood except that my Mother told me. As far as I ;know my Mother's father was not living with the tribe at the time of my Mother's birth. My niece, Mary D. Davidson, claims through the same sourc I do." Signed: Mary T. Dover, Chattanooga, Tn June 18, 1908. The claim was filed by Flora A. Whitice for her minor children, application #18184. The claim was denied for lack of adequate proof of descendency. This may not help you in your Dover research, but it adds a bit of interesting history.
