Is this Francis M DOVER, Francis Marion DOVER or another one? If it is Francis Marion, then Hannah is a second wife, being that Mary BAILEY was prior? AND William is his father not Hezekiah as previously suspected? Melba Tehachapi, CA

    2. Sharon S, Joe was a meticulous researcher, wasn't he. Wish he were here. I only meant to say (rather poorly) that I could verify what he had given you because I had seen the records myself. No apology necessary. I do have one addition though. An explanation of sorts of the entry of Anderson Dover who married Elizabeth Odom (Adams). I haven't been able to find a marriage record for them, but I believe her name was Odom. The 1870 Bartow Co GA census shows John Odom, 15, brother in law in the household of Anderson and Elizabeth. Her death certificate on the other hand shows her name to be Adams....her father Jno Adams and her mother as Jane, both from GA. The informant was Jim Kelly, Elizabeth's son in law. So, was her name Adams? or did Jim have a memory lapse and say Adams instead of Odom? I can't say either way with certainty and have just never followed up on it. (another project for "one of these days") bj

    2. Dear Bobbie Jean, Thanks for setting the record straight. You are absolutely correct. The summary that I copied had once been attached to some family group sheets. Joe was very meticulous in listing his sources. My mistake-- should have looked a little further to the group sheets, because Joe does source you as informant there. Sorry! Sharon Sukiennik

    1. Re: [DOVER-L] Cherokee Co., TX Dover
    2. Sharon and Diane, I can source the material. It is almost verbatim information I researched and sent to Joe when he was beginning his Dover work. It comes from census records, the probate records of Wm Simpson Dover, interviews with Cherokee CO desc. ect. I was never able to sort out the story of James Camadore. The story of him marring a "Cat" Clark...we (Joe & I) thought was a mixed- up memory of somebody else. But, I can't say that with any certainty. The story also came from a Martin desc. who married a Dooly. If James Camadore married, I've never found a record...if he had any children...they've not been identified either. If he did marry and have children, I don't understand why his estate went to his parents. Anyway, if you need or want anymore info, let me know. Will be happy to share what I have. bj

    2. Diane, Several years ago, I corresponded with Joseph L. McGriff in Odessa, TX. His line was also William Simpson Dover. Joe related the following information: Sometime between 1850 and 1855 he (Wm. Simpson) and his family moved to Cherokee Co., TX. This move included those children still living at home as well as those who had already married with the possible exception of one daughter Ann, that has not been traced. One source says Ann made at least one visit to TX and returned to GA. They most probably moved by wagon train with some of their neighbors, because a comparison of the 1850 GA census and the 1860 Cherokee Co., TX census list some of the same names still settled near each other, and intermarried with each other. The family settled somewhere in the area between Jacksonville and Rusk, TX, probably near Craft, TX, around FM 22. William Simpson Dover died between 1860 and 1862 when his heirs presented his estate for probate. A copy of the 11 pages is on file at the court house in Rusk, TX. The Administrators of the estate named were his wife Lucy Alice Dover and his son Campbell C. Dover. On the copy of the probate papers a James C. Dover has already died and left his property to William and Lucy Dover. It is assumed that this is their son James Camadore, who is supposed to have been living in Erath Co., TX. Some sources say that James Camadore Dover was married to a Catherine Clark, others say he lived to have children. If he died, what happened to his family?-- Why was his estate given to his parents? He would have been about 24 years old at the time. One source has given his death date as 1858. William Simpson is most probably buried in Jarratt Cem. in an unmarked grave. Lucy is also supposed to be buried there. Many of the older stones were simply chiseled onto a large rock and with time have worn smooth or been moved away. Jarrett Cem. is located on FM 22 near Craft, TX. The land was donated in 1858 for that use by Wade and Henry Morris Jarrett--two brothers who married daughters of William S. and Lucy Dover. Joe related the children of William Simpson as: 1. Anderson Dover b.5 Jul 1824 d. 27 Aug 1906 buried at Wesley Chapel Cem. west of Bluffdale, TX md. Eliza Odom (Adams) 2. Mary Ann (Polly) Dover b. 5 Dec 1825 d. 30 Mar 1891 buried at Jarrett Cem., Cherokee Co, TX md Alford Morrison Long. 3. 3. Finally a little more on Sam's family. Samuel has been a focus for several years. Sam was born in three states and either died of measles or deserted. Sam was in Carroll County, Georgia in 1850 and 1860. I can't figure out any clue on his parents. S. G. Dover, Pvt., Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Company G, 41st Regiment (Carroll County). Entered service March 4, 1862, died of measles at Chattanooga on November 13, 1862. Georgia Confederate Roster, Volume 4, page 478. Physical description: 5'-6", dark hair and complexion, gray eyes. The CSA records indicate a North Carolina birthplace. Married December 6, 1849? Emila Shackelford was present at the wedding. GA relatives ended up over in Douglas Co. when it was created from Carroll Co. GA in 1870.) Just in case you don't have it, I thought I would send it to you. DOUGLAS COUNTY GEORGIA, WHO WAS WHO, VOL. 1 by Joe Baggett p.83: "DOVER. J.H. , 1857-1942, is buried at Powell Chapel Cemetary with wife Julia, 1872-1895. In 1900, John Dover, widower, lived in the Fairplay district of Douglas Co. with daughter Myrtie L. born 1892, and sister Julia a., born 1869. Their brother Frank Dover, born 1856, lived near Bill Arp in 1880 with wife Polly and son Samuel. John, Julia, and Frank were children of Sarah Ann Dover, born about 1827, her parents born in Virginia (maiden name Shackelford) whose husband Samuel G., born in SC in 1829, died in a Chattanooga hospital of measles in November or December of 1862 serving in a Carroll Co. unit in the Civil War. Sarah lived near Fairplay, filing a Confederate widow's pension in 1919." Hope this helps out. By the way, I noticed a lot of Dover names when I was researching in Cherokee Co. TX lately. Take care. William Simpson Dover, son of Francis J., and several members of his family, including sons and daughters-in-law, moved to CHerokee County after 1850 from Walker County GA. His daughter, my gggrandmother, was Juliann Dover. A sister, Patsy, was along; sister Nancy Caroline, who married Henry Morris Jarrett; brother Alfred Lafayette. I haven't figured out if there were more sons and daughters, but I'm working on it. There were also Dovers in neighboring counties, but I can't connect them yet. Good hunting. Diane Bingham

    3. Please take the time to read this. From what I understand, some members of Rootsweb mailing list. Might have passed it on without knowing it... If you see any links or attachments with the words Happy99.exeWorm DO NOT CLICK ON IT!! http://www.datafellows.fi/v-descs/ska.htm To Check to see if you have been HIT with this virus use your FIND FILES or FOLDERS Search under START button, and look for these files in your system. SKA.EXE SKA.DLL WSOCK32.SKA WINSOCK32.SKA Check for any file ending in .ska, by searching for *.ska If you find these files in your system go to the antivirus providers (Symantec is good), (Dr. Solomons) websites and search for the antivirus program specified for this virus WORM. All viruses listed in the Virus description pages can be detected and removed with Data Fellows Anti-virus and Data Security software. NAME: Win32/Ska.A ALIAS: Happy99, WSOCK32.SKA, SKA.EXE, I-Worm.Happy, PE_SKA SIZE: 10000 Win32/Ska.A is a Win32-based e-mail and newsgroup worm. It displays fireworks when executed first time as Happy99.exe. (Normally this file arrives as an e- mail attachment to a particular PC, or it is downloaded from a newsgroup.) When executed first time, it creates SKA.EXE and SKA.DLL in the system directory. SKA.EXE is a copy of HAPPY99.EXE. SKA.DLL is packed inside SKA.EXE. After this Ska creates a copy of WSOCK32.DLL as WSOCK32.SKA in the system directory. Then it tries to patch WSOCK32.DLL so that its export entries for two functions will point to new routines (to the worm's own functions) inside the patched WSOCK32.DLL. If WSOCK32.DLL is in use, Ska.A modifies the registry's RunOnce entry to execute SKA.EXE during next boot-up. (When executed as SKA.EXE it does not display the firework, just tries to patch WSCOK32.DLL until it is not used.) "Connect" and "Send" exports are patched in WSOCK32.DLL. Thus the worm is able to see if the local user has any activity on network. When "Connect" or "Send" APIs are called, Ska loads its SKA.DLL containing two exports: "news" and "mail". Then it spams itself to the same newsgroups or same e-mail addresses where the user was posting or mailing to. It maps SKA.EXE to memory and converts it to uuencoded format and mails an additional e-mail or newsgroup post with the same header information as the original message but containing no text but just an attachment called Happy99.exe. Therefore Happy99 is not limited like the Win32/Parvo virus which is unable to use a particular news server when the user does not have access to it. The worm also maintains a list of addresses it has posted a copy of itself. This is stored in a file called LISTE.SKA. (The number of entries are limited in this file.) The worm contains the following encrytped text which is not displayed: Is it a virus, a worm, a trojan? MOUT-MOUT Hybrid (c) Spanska 1999. The mail header of the manipulated mails will contain a new field called "X- Spanska: YES". Normally this header field is not visible to receivers of the message. Since the worm does not check WSOCK32.DLL's attribute, it can not patch it if it is set to read only. [Analysis: Peter Szor, Data Fellows] Also, I was told that if you e-mail yourself, and it shows up as a attachment. Them you have this worm.. Patricia
