    3. My Dover lineage is sketchy at best, but here it is. Nora Ophelia Dover b. 20/Feb/1852 in Georgia. Mother Martha b. ca 1835 and the only clues I have to the Dover father is the family names of Frederick and Forest. Nora Ophelia m. John T. Setliff, 30/Mar/1871, in Dalton, Whitfield Co. Georgia, ( his name is spelt Satliff on the licenses). In 1880 they were listed in the Whitfield Co. Census in Dalton, and his occupation was Rail road worker. With children Charles H. age 5 and William A. age 6. They were in Winston Co. Alabama by 1900, and the census shows Charles H., John Cleveland, William Andrew, James Fredrick, ( my grandfather), and Calvin Forrest. In 1910, they were still in Winston Co. and my grandparents who married in 1909, were living in the house with them. John T. Setliff d. 1912 and Nora O. went to Jefferson Co. AL. to live with her son. I found her in the 1920 Jefferson Co. (B'ham) with son Calvin, and she died 24/Sept/1927. On 28/Sept/1927 she was buried in Dalton, Whitfield Co. GA. somewhere? I was told by my grandmother that she wanted to be returned to Georgia to be buried with " her kin" I know that they had 6 children and only 5 boys lived. Her mother Martha remarried 11/June/1854 to Andrew Wrinkle (Winkle). and they moved to Arkansas. As I said it is not much, yet, but a lot of what I have came from the people on the Dover list, and I thank you. Jimmie Sue Page

    2. Marolyn, Have a few details in your line that you haven't listed: Eliza E Dover md 1 Feb 1849 Gwinnett Co., GA Samuel Zachary Dover b. 9 Apr 1835 d.16 Aug 1908 bur. Finley Creek Cem., Izard Co. AR near Sage,AR.(from cemetery record) I have quite a bit of data on him if you are interested. You might want to look a 1870 Polk Co, TN Page 41 42/42 Thomas Dover and wife Nancy and kids Page 42 48/48 Samuel Dover age 72 and wife Susan age 66 and 2 grandkids (Samuel is still alive and well here. Susan and grandson are found 1880 next door to son Samuel Zachary Dover in Izard Co, AR.) Page 44 91/91 James Dover 33GA Delia Dover 24 GA Adaline Dover 6/12(Dec) TN I have seen in an early researchers notes that James Dover s/o Samuel Dover had died in Civil War also. Have since rethought that in light of these census records. I now have to wonder if this James is their son. Age would correspond. He would not be all that far from his father and brother if this is him. I noticed that you listed William Dover/Samantha Campbell as a s/o Samuel Dover. He is a new one on me. Do you know where that information comes from? I am not a Samuel Dover descendant, but have put together a file of info for him from various researchers and data that I've run across. Some verified, some not. Would be more than happy to share anything I have if you are interested. Sharon Sukiennik

    3. Unfortunately I have only one DOVER, my grandmother Lilian Beatrice DOVER born 1893, she married Frederick Graystone GODFREY about 1920. She died 23/2/1931 @ 9 Cross Street, Letchworth, Herts,England. Because she died when my mother was only 7 I have very little information, my grandfather was in the British Army (during the Irish troubles of the time). I cannot trace the marriage in England & assume they married in Ireland. The Irish DOVER's were Church of Ireland, & I as the name is not Irish I guess they originated in England. There are 7 DOVER's listed in Eire phone books, they are probably my mum's cousin's or their children. According to the LDS records there have been Dover's in Ireland from the 1500's. 3. If we have as many members as Patricia stated, "please" share your known family. There's enough collective DOVER resources on the list that can help. I know of several people who signed off (or almost signed off) who were waiting for their family connection to surface ... only to make the connection later when it came out someplace else. Here's my family: JOHN DOVER was born abt. 1793 in SC, and died Abt. 1879. This John DOVER "thought" to have been born in Pendleton, SC and moved with parents to Buncombe, NC by 1820 (these are my current theories). It's possible that this is the John DOVER who sold to Jeptha DOVER in Buncombe. John is "thought" to have been in Cherokee County, Georgia 1836-1842. The children of John DOVER below come from the age groupings in the 1840 Cherokee County, Georgia census AND 1830 Buncombe County, North Carolina. If so, son #1 would have been a head of household in 1840. John DOVER was in Randolph County, Alabama in 1850. Son Bailey was in Coosa County, Alabama in 1850 (next door). Children of JOHN DOVER are: i. SON, b. Bet. 1815 - 1820, NC. ii. BAILEY APPLETON DOVER, b. 1817, Buncombe Co., NC; d. April 24, 1890, Greene Co., AR; m. MARTHA ANN FIELDING, Abt. 1840 iii. DAUGHTER, b. Bet. 1820 - 1825, NC. iv. SON, b. Bet. 1825 - 1830. v. LUCINDA DOVER, b. 1829, NC; m. (1) ASA (?) ORR; m. (2) COOPER BENNETT. vi. LEMUEL B. DOVER, b. 1832, NC; d. Bef. 1880; m. CLEMENTINE. Lemuel & Clementine DOVER left Alabama abt. 1858 and went to Mississippi with a group of families from Tallapoosa County, Alabama .... MADDEN, NELSON, ANDREWS, SHARP. Generation #1: John DOVER b abt 1793 SC d by 1879 Madison or Jackson Co., AL. Wife unknown, but John was widowed or divorced after 1840 and by 1850. Probably in Cherokee Co., GA 1840. Was in Randolph Co., AL in 1850 (this census says he was b 1799 NC) with Lemuel and Lucinda at home. Living with daughter Lucinda DOVER ORR BENNETT in 1870 Madison Co., AL (Cooper BENNETT). Generation #2: Bailey Appleton DOVER b 1817 NC d 1890 Greene Co., AR. Wife Martha Ann "Patsy" FIELDING b 1822 GA d abt 1886 Greene Co., AR. Family was in Coosa Co., AL in 1850 and Blount Co., AL 1860+. Was in Poinsett Co., AR 1870 before moving to Greene Co., AR by 1880. Generation #3: Andrew L. DOVER b 1847 GA/AL d 1896 Greene Co., AR. Wife Tennessee Virgina YATES b 1860 TN d 1929 Greene Co., AR. Andrew died from a snake bite.
