In a post dated 1-24-99 Dennis Dover related the information from Jesse Green's autobiography. Jesse Green was a descendant of Francis J Dover through his son Anderson Dover. In this document, Jesse Green names the sons of FJD as: Johnson, Nelson, Benson, Anderson, Simpson, and Thompson. I have noted that in the last couple of years that some are now listing Michael as a son of Francis J Dover. Does anyone have any documentation of that? Through my own research of trying to find my own place in the FJD line, I believe there is an awful lot of circumstantial evidence that would suggest that Michael is the son of Hezekiah Dover, rather than FJD. In 1819 York Co, SC there is court documentation where Hezekiah and Michael were involved in an altercation with Manning Martin. Hezekiah appears on 1820 York Co. census. Michael is not listed on the 1820 census, but would fit by age in the household of Hezekiah. Both are again found together on 1830 Rutherford Co, NC census. Between 1830-1840 Hezekiah and Michael make the move to Habersham Co, GA, where looks like Michael must have just passed through as he was also listed in another GA county. Francis J Dover had left the Kings Creek area before 1800 and was in Pendleton Co,SC 1800 & 1810 Census. He relocated to Habersham Co, GA prior to 1820. Francis had a rather unique naming pattern going with his boys it seems. Their names all ended with "son" which would make Michael the odd name in a line up of kids. These are only my own theories and ideas. I have nothing to prove or disprove it at this point. I'm certainly open to new ideas. Would appreciate hearing from any of the Michael Dover descendants on this. Perhaps you have something that I haven't run across yet. Has anyone put together a list of children for Hezekiah Dover? I am always interested in this type of conversation, since so much is unknown and there are so many ways to interpret what we do know. Regarding the sons of FJD, I've always wondered about that. We know that one son, Simpson, had a first name of William and then there was Elijah Benson. Perhaps one of the other sons was Michael something. However, the speculation from Sharon S.is more plausible. The close proximity to Hezikiah is probably closer to the truth. Maybe someday, someone will stumble across the missing link. Later... Hi, Bobby, Just read your message on 25 Feb 1999 about Columbus Dover and Arminda Shaddix. I descend from Robert Alexander Shaddix and Sarah Walden, and according to my research, their son was Robert Washington Shaddix, who had a daughter named Arminda Elizabeth. Also, I descend from David Washington Dover and Sarah Sparks, whose son David and Charlotte have a son that was identified as Columbus, age 12, on the 1880 Winston Co., AL census as "Columbus". Andrew "Andy" DOVER is my great grandfather, Clarence Gilbert DOVER is my grandfather and Harold Gilbert DOVER is my father. Grandpa was chief clerk for the Cotton Belt Railroad for 50 years. I now have his gold watch. The Greene County, Arkansas web page just posted some photographs which include the Paragould station where Grandpa worked most of those years. I've been there a number of times. I remember to cigar smoke, the green visor, the elastic arm bands, the hot red sealing wax with the RR seal, the safe and the odor of steam and diesel ... and the Foster Freeze across the street. What follows is not 100 percent. Sure would be great to meet a cousin from these lines. I just heard that Andrew has descendants now living somewhere in Tennessee. Descendants of Andrew L.
