    3. James Arthur Underwood said his grandma, Celia Dover, is buried in Jockey Ga. Does anyone know where that is? We aren't sure of the spelling. Do you think it is possible her sister Addleisa Dover is buried there since we don't know where or when she died? Ruth

    2. S.Romanek
    3. I thought I would let you all know that another list I am on, has someone who is kind enough to post the ENTIRE Census index for 1830 for Hamilton County, Tenn. If anyone would like me to forward it to you, just let me know. Happy to do so. I don't have the time to look for names, and will have to forward all of the post. There are 14 so far. ============================================== Sharon DOVER Romanek Prescott, Az Researching: KIRKSEY, DOVER, TYNER, SHRADER, EDGE, WILLIAMS romanek@cybertrails.com Sept. 30-May 15 romanek@salisbury.net May 30-Sept 15 sromanek@hotmail.com Year Round Back-Up only

    1. [DOVER-L] DOVER-L
    2. Dennis Dover
    3. Dover-L was put together, started and is maintained by Patricia Manson. Patricia also put together the Dover Family Association GenWeb page and Dover Queries at GenConnect at RootsWeb. I don't know how Patricia does it, but am I thankful. Dover-L began in mid-June 1998. I've lost some of our messages, but I show 1,743 being posted to date: Jun-98 89 (mid month) Jul-98 164 Aug-98 134 Sep-98 140 Oct-98 94 Nov-98 298 Dec-98 194 Jan-99 167 Feb-99 273 Mar-99 187 (mid month) Probably an easier way to check archived messages along with "other names" from other sources is to use the search engine at: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Dover Click the "Global Search" hyperlink just under the GenConnect at RootsWeb logo. You can use any surname and narrow the searches by geographic location. I found three or four messages that were pretty important yesterday. I think of DOVER-L as the main forum for the Dover and allied family online research. Besides the grind of records we also learn some of the stories like this one from Debbie Dover Conway: "During the Civil War when Sherman marched toward the sea burning everything in sight and taking whatever would be of use to him and his troops, he passed through the very tiny community of Hillsboro, Ga. This is Monticello, Georgia in Jasper County. When he came upon the homeplace of the Dover's of course he was taking and killing and burning. My great grandfather David Harvey Dover had a pony. As they watched the horror he began to cry and beg that they not take his pony. They did not. Everything else they could take down to household goods they took but they let him keep his pony."

    3. Dennis, I found this online today with some information on the Ohio Dover family. I thought the reference to "Lemuel" as a family name was of interest to you. "Sharon Gire, Sat Jan 17, 1998, 19:05:59 I am trying to determine if my great great grandfather, John DOVER, born in Muskingham Co., in about 1825, is the son of Daniel Dover, who owned land with his brother Hiram in Morgan Co. I have a fair amount of information from a cousin of Daniel about that Dover family, and have traced my Dovers back to 1870, but am looking for confirmation or denial of the link to Daniel Dover and his ancestors. Both families have a Lemuel, which makes me think they are related. Any help would be appreciated." Her e-mail address is "gires@juno.com"

    3. It is absolutely a must to check the real film out! No one has advocated "just" looking at an index. There would be too much information missed. Many people we're searching are often listed with other families, besides being listed under the wrong name. The census indexes are certainly a point of departure to get a general idea of who was where, and when. -----Original Message----- From: SSukiennik@aol.com <SSukiennik@aol.com> To: GAELCEE@worldnet.att.net <GAELCEE@worldnet.att.net>; Dover-L@rootsweb.com <Dover-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, March 11, 1999 8:14 AM Subject: Re: [DOVER-L] 1830 & 1840 Ga/Census Index >Only problem with dealing with just census indexes is that you can sometimes >miss some of the people that were actually there.
