This is a Carroll County, Georgia marriage (9-24-1839). Also on Voluntine/Valentine: Carroll County, Georgia Deed Book C, Page 402 April 3, 1839 Campbell County, April 3, 1838. Oath of Benjamin Burnett that he saw deed signed. Attest: Benjamin T. Watkins, Justice of the Peace; February 26, 1839. Going through some records that Terry had posted I saw a Mary Dover who married a Volantine Burnet. I have Larkin listed as having a sister by the name of Mary, but she is married to a William Hendrix. I wonder if this could be another marriage for Mary. The time frame would work. Anyone got any ideas? The marriage record I am looking at shows: Mary Dover to Volantine Burnet 9-24-1839 Larkins sister is said to be born 1822. The age would be about right also. Does anyone have the birthdate for Johnson Dover, son of Francis J.? I have June 19, 1852, not sure where I got it. I didn't list my source like a dummy. It seems to be awful late, and then again there was a post by Gayle when the list first began with a Johnson Dover in with the 1850 Census which included Francis J. at age 88 and Johnson at age 63. Is this the son of Francis? Do I have something mixed up? Are there two Johnsons? Does anyone else have the date of 1852 for a Johnson Dover? This is the only one I have in my files at this time. With all the computer troubles I am just getting back into the swing of things. Would appreciate some help on this one if anyone knows the answer. Sharon Dover Romanek

>From the CALHOUN (GEORGIA) TIMES, September 18, 1887: Two women were caught at work in an illicit distillery in Habersham County, Georgia. They were Mary Ann Dover and Sarah Adaline Dover. Deputy Collector Strong and Deputy Marshal Nix were scouring the country near Clarkesville, when they came upon the distillery in active operation, the women being engaged in making corn whiskey and apple brandy. The officers destroyed the still and other apparatus, but when it came to arrest, their gallantry got the best of them. Wayne Reeves
