This is not a hoax, this is the real thing. For a description of its overall impact so far, see ZDNet Tech News: http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2233030,00.html For a technical description of the WM97/Melissa virus, please see Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team at Network Associates: http://www.avertlabs.com/public/datafiles/valerts/vinfo/melissa.asp W97M/Melissa is a Word 97 Macro virus which was discovered Friday, March 26, 1999 and has been spreading extremely rapidly. It arrives as part of an Microsoft Word document attached to an e-mail message very likely FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW and is activated when you open the document. The message has been described as follows. The subject line looks like: Subject: Important Message From <name of sender> It may also read something like: "Don't open this at work" The message contains this line: "Here is that document you asked for ... don't show anyone else ;-)" Due to the way this virus works, the sender will most likely be someone you know. Their infected system is attaching the infected MS Word file and sending it on to you without their knowledge. Do not open any attached Word document, EVEN IF IT'S FROM SOMEONE YOU KNOW, without virus-checking it with an uptodate virus checker. If you open an infected document containing this virus, it will corrupt local MS Word setup files, infect subsequently opened Word documents, and, if you use Microsoft Outlook, will cause your computer to pass on the attached document to the top 50 addresses listed in your e-mail address book, all without your knowledge. (Note that it originally got started with document called LIST.DOC, a list of passwords to hardcore porn sites.) General rules of safe computing: 1) Keep your anti-virus software uptodate. Your anti-virus software can be updated via downloads from the vendor's Web site. 2) DO NOT open any attached Word documents, regardless of source, without virus-checking them first. -- Patricia Manson Dover listmanager http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Dover Alabama listmanager http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Sponsor/AlabamaList My Home page http://www.myfreeoffice.com/treeshaker/

I would suggest if there is any information below that might be something you need, that you go to the site below and look at the information. It was almost impossible to copy and paste in a form that was usable. Not to mention that something is still goofy with this blasted computer. I reset the wrap and it still comes out strange. Belisle, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912 (Page 314-315)Submitted: by : Kay Thompson Brown J. H. WILLIAMS J. H. Williams, a prominent citizen of Florien, was born in DeSoto parish, March 6, 1847. His father was Lightfoot Williams, who settled near Many in 1857, where he owned a gin and a fine plantation and his mother before her marriage was a Miss Somerville. On March 29, 186, J. H. Williams was married to Miss Neomi Ford and to their union nine boys and two girls were born: John H., B. L., Robert L., Samuel K., Lemuel L., Sydney Jl, Daniel S., Edward L., Bryon, Lizzie (Mrs Joe Dover), and Mary. Mr. Williams' second marriage was to Susan Woodel, December, 1891, and to them three children were born, Van, Jeff and Bessie. Mr. Williams' served with the Sabine Rebels during the Civil War. He has been engaged in farming and in later years was interested in saw mills. He is a good citizen and has contributed his part to local progress.
Again, this is one of the very lengthy documents. I only posted the Dover information it contained. Sharon Dover Romanek http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/la+ind ex+1334893146895+F George L. Jackson, Sabine Parish, Louisiana Source: History of Sabine Parish by John G. Belisle, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912 (Page 299-300)Submitted: by : Kay Thompson Brown The subject of this sketch was enabled to secure only a very limited education the last school he attended being at Many in 1874 when Prof. Davies was the teacher. His father's family came to Sabine parish in 1872 and located near Fort Jesup and he followed farming until 1876 when he entered the printing office of the Sabine Southeron at Many to learn the "art preservative" at a salary of $4 a month. After an extended experience at the printer's trade, however, he left it to accept a position in the store of L. B. and F. C. Gay at Robeline, in which he remained four years. He was then employed by Caldwell & Hill, and later was manager of the store of the Farmers' Co-Operative Association at Fort Jesup for two years, after which he farmed two years and then worked for three years in A. Dover's store at Robeline. He then spent eight years as salesman and buyer for the mercantile house of Stille Bros. At Many, resigning that position to make the race for assessor, to which office he was elected in 1908. In 1912 he was re elected without opposition, which is sufficient evidence of his personal popularity. He is a progressive citizen and efficient public official. In 1888 Mr. Jackson was married to Miss Mary l. Presnall of Robeline and them then children have been born: Kate (wife of T. J. Chisholm), Lena, Robert B., Norma, Daisy, Florence (died in 1911), Fred, James, Carro and Mary Evelin.
This is an EXTREMELY lengthy document. I only copied and pasted the Dover reference. There is also a PONDER reference along with this. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/la+ind ex+1019971909083+F Natchitoches Parish History, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana Submitted by: Gaytha Carver Thompson Source: Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Northwest Louisiana The Southern Publishing Company, 1890 The Chaplin family may be said to originate at Fort Jesup, and when Mrs. Clarke died, Judge Chaplin became heir to the property. Clark's log house tavern stood where A. Dover resides, and J. H. Gallion's log dwelling where W. M. Cook's dwelling is, and his log store house where L. Daniel's store is located. James E. Keegan settled three miles west in 1853, W. A. Ponder five miles west in 1853, J. H. Cox close by, preceded them. Rauscheck, a Russian, who was discharged at Fort Jesup, located three miles southwest, and Philip Wagley resided on the site of the city, near Lake Clark. Stokers and other pioneer families of Sabine located along the old Mexican trail, but comparatively little progress was made until the railroad was built. In 1881 the New Orleans & Pacific Railroad survey was made and the road built. May 1, that year, Robeline was surveyed for C. Chaplin, and additions made by N. Stamper, but not until September were town lots staked. James E. Keegan moved his large home from the plantation into the new town; K. B. Wilson opened a saloon opposite James McCook's store of later days; N. A. Stamper's store room was built in August, 1881; Hughes & Carter's grocery was opened soon after, and they were followed by Hopkins & Barber, and John Decker. C. J. Smith opened the second salon; William Edwards the first livery; M. Brown the third hotel, and Mrs. Howe the fourth;' James McCook;'s dry goods store was established later, and Walter D. Hopkins opened the railroad office; but in December, 1881, he vacated the office, leaving $1,500 to be accounted for. The years 1882 brought several new traders hither. The Gays opened a general store, A. E. Cassady a drug store, Nash & Sons, L. Daniel and the Lees general stores, and B. D. Loper a saloon. In 1883 general stores were opened by F. J. Cook & Co., M. C. Fisher, W. W. Page and Mrs. E. C. Lovett, a livery stable by T. E. Dodd and a grocery by Martin Brown. The older traders made many improvements. Hill & Calwell's cotton market store, John Blake's large store, Cox & Thomas' and the Lindsey store were all brought into existence. In 1884 Stamper's steam mill and gin was constructed and Hogue entered the firm of Gay Brother. During this year the business center began to change

Sharon & Patricia, I can't find Miriam anywhere, even in these updated uploads on the Burnett's. I showed a Humphrey POSEY in the Henry Co., GA census. Most of us know that Francis J. Dover was supposed to be married to Polly POSEY, so I follow the POSEY's ... as allusive as all our lines. There was a Humphrey POSEY in Buncombe Co., NC fairly early living near a Joseph CROSS. Also near the family that is supposed to be the ancestors of Elvis Presley. In the John Ehle book, "Trail of Tears," he talked briefly about a Humphrey POSEY in Buncombe that was a circuit riding Baptist minister who made a lot of progress with the Cherokee when the Methodists had failed. Humphrey briefly went to Tennessee and set up a Baptist school for the Cherokee children and church for the families. Don't know if this is the same guy or not. As long as I'm out in left field (again), one of the prominent Revolutionary commanders was a POSEY who was said to be the illegitimate son of George Washington. Think he went to Missouri. The POSEY thing is interesting because they were in that part of Alabama that had been part of the Creek Nation. There are several POSEY families that have a FIELDING middle name pattern (my connection), and these are the ones in Coosa or that immediate area that went to Arkansas and Texas. They appear to have South Carolina roots and the closest clue is from Pendleton, SC with the next stop in Shelby County, Alabama with a DOVER in the neighboring household.
