CNIDR Isearch-cgi 1.20.06 (File: mtnebocm.txt) Mt. Nebo Cemetery Inscriptions Gilmer County, GA Mt. Nebo Cemetery Gilmer County, Georgia - Mountaintown District Survey Taken: January 16,1999 Historical Information about cemetery: Mt. Nebo Methodist Church was an active church during the Civil War and during this time a split occurred into North and South. Some of the parishioners formed Gates Chapel Methodist Church. Nothing remains of the site now except the cemetery where a number of the community's earliest settlers are buried. This information taken from the historical information provided by Anita Summers for Gates Chapel United Methodist Church. Directions to cemetery: >From Ellijay, Gilmer Co. Georgia, take Ga. 52 (Chatsworth Hwy) west approximately Four miles to Gates Chapel Road on the right. Travel approximately 2 1/2 miles to a small narrow drive that angles off to the right. At present there is a small sigh on a tree marking the cemetery. The survey was recorded by starting at the road and working back in rows, but is Listed in alphabetical order by surname only. A correction on the Underwood reunion. It is the last Sun in May in Sweetwater. We are going to have a picnic the Sun after Easter.
Apparently my observation skills have dropped down to the level of something between amoeba and vegetable. I just realized that the comment I made earlier about putting Dover info you find not relevant to your line out to the others, is randomly placed on posts. It just seems to appear more often with those Dennis makes....Oh well, we just keep learning don't we?.......g.

ALL RIGHT! Let's get one planned.......Are there any Dovers in MO. who are chomping at the bits to get it started? I can do stuff from here in GA. of course, but I'm unfamiliar with MO. except St. Louis, so my knowledge about where would be economically feasible is limited.....Any more takers?.......g. -----Original Message----- From: bushytail <bushytail@jps.net> To: DOVER-L@rootsweb.com <DOVER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, April 01, 1999 7:28 PM Subject: [DOVER-L] Dover Reunion >Im still reading all these emails I got today. Ruth, I am glad to see that you all still meet. It's been some time since we talked about this, but I hadn't forgotten. One of these days, when we haven't been "claimed" by someone, we'll get up there. The reunion that I made reference to was about one that a cousin in my direct line told me about. I have had no response to any questions I had about it, so I assume it just never got off the ground. It was to have been one for those from Samuel Dover and Susan Campbell. I have no idea what happened to it. Hope all is well with you and yours......g. -----Original Message----- From: Ruth <betty@catt.com> To: DOVER-L@rootsweb.com <DOVER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, April 01, 1999 4:25 PM Subject: [DOVER-L] Reunion >We too are having a reunion. Hi, My server has been down, so I need to use this address to respond. I have spent, a BUNCH of time in Virginia Co, on the net. Because one of my other main lines where there. But I also look for Dover, you know, just in case:-) And all that I can seem to come up with is a handful of Dovel. But, I check with the old writing, and this is what crossed my mind, The old L and R where written High, most of the time. So there is a possibility, that a couple of the Dover/s might have been written as Dovel. This is just a thought, In any case, I have not run across one Dover so far. in King Williams co, Spotsylvania Co,Hanover Co, Henrico Co, Halifax Co, Mecklenburg Co, or Charlotte Co. I am on some of these mailing list, and have exchange information with J. Spears who is the cordinator of some of these Co's. And like I said no Dover/s yet. So I figured I would mention this incase any of you Dover reseachers wanted to check out Va. So you could focus on other countys. Patricia --- "Marjorie D. Hi Sharon and all - I have tried for two days, on both of the posted URLs and continually get the message, "http: (?) server too busy." Is everyone on the planet trying to log on? Probably. I did and nearly everyone I know. I hope they get the message and hook us up with some top of the line servers. Is there a way to send them a message? I'll put in my 2 cents worth. Diane
I have no idea if there is any other alternative or not Diane. I will pass it along if I hear of one. I know they will be swamped for a while since every one of us has been waiting for this for a while. Maybe in a little while it will slow down and we can get on and do some research.Sure hope so. I did get a message from my Tyner list, and someone on it did get on, with one of the URL's I posted, but said it was very slow with everyone in the country trying to use it at once. Hello all of you ! I cant tell you how nice it was to come home and see there is a Dover family out here. Thank You, Thank You!! Now I have so many to read, it might take me a bit to respond if you ask anything specific. Hope everyone is having a GREAT evening. Trudy
Trudy, You should be congratulated! You have managed to get our attention away from our schedules or any pressing family obligations. Apathy seems to follow time periods of intense "digging" for facts. I am delighted that you caused me to respond as a way to put the proverbial "fire" under me. It has resulted in me deciding to rearrange things so I can again take a little time for my family hobby that is needed to maintain sanity when surrounded by chaos. Please understand that the rather large majority, probably all but 2 or 3 list members [Patricia- wouldn't you agree?] have their Dover roots in the south. So it's quite natural for us as a group to focus on the goings on in that area, because that's where we are researching. It doesn't seem logical for me to look for my particular line in Utah, or northern Ohio, if I know that they grew out of S.C. does it? In spite of this, I have never known, heard of, imagined, etc. any Dover/Dovers who would ever "slight" an innocent someone. [ with "innocent" being the operative word - because many Dovers I know or knew and loved are very vindictive] Least of all, someone such as yourself who we consider to be a family member with all the Dovers on the list. I apologize to you for those of us who seemingly, failed to acknowledge you. However, my personal experiences with other lists can only view this list with admiration for sharing everything they find with the list, regardless of whether or not it belongs to their line. I can promise you that I have had a file made for sometime now, ,just for you, with your family info kept for reference in anticipation of the time when something will pop up to benefit you. Somehow, it always does. The Italian word - patienza- [sic] - pronounced - "puh -chin- zuh " meaning "to have patience" has become my mantra. I say it to myself countless times throughout each day, as a reminder that good things will come if I have patience. Because of the Dovers who went into Tn ,KY, and probably onto Ohio,[the Indiana group would fit here too ] with all the biblical names, I have kept my antennae up for anything there. This is because of my line that is traced from one Samuel [in their name someplace] to another through 5 generations, except one, which is a new testament name of Thomas. My husband's family is from northern Ohio. When we drive there through Zanesville, and Dover , etc. to get there, I can't help but feel connected , as I contemplate how these Dovers might relate to me, or to my line. Please don't give up on us. I agree with Sharon Dover Sukiennik about us being "ignorant" about this group of Dovers. However, we wouldn't be if information about them is shared with the group, as you did with your added re: to a re: the descendents of Philip Dover. . The more facts that are shared or repeated, the better chance that we recognize something to fit with someone. There are, as a Dover cousin [no names mentioned] on the list put it to me once, many "lurking" who don't say anything. Patricia has begged everyone - many times to share anything you find with the list. On the bottom of every posting from Dennis, you'll find a question regarding did you find anything on a Dover that wasn't yours, to please post it, or something to that effect. If we are to succeed it will only be because we have shared with one another. The fact that Dennis and Sharon [Sukiennik ] have more info on the Dovers than anyone else provides the example of that truth. Our other Sharon nee'Dover - [Romanek] is another. She hasn't been doing research anywhere close to the time that most of us have been doing it, yet she is just about to pass us all up because of her relentless sharing of absolutely everything that she finds regarding anything DOVER. You never know when something that seems insignificant might be just the key for someone else. If we are serious about our own research, we all need to be reminded to wear our sharing hats. Perhaps with something like -" P.S. SHARE' D" (for Patricia, our 2 Sharons[nee' Dover] and Dennis) We can make it happen! Being able to provide witness to the continuity of the circle of life, by Remembering those who gave life to each of us, and sharing it with others was the basic reason why I started doing family research. Easter's promise of rebirth is a perfect time to be reminded once more. Trudy, thank you for being the catalyst . I am so envious of your reunion. There had been talk from a Dover cousin from this area of one in April, but I've heard nothing more. I wish there was some way for us to plan one in the central part of the country that would make it accessible for a larger number of our list members. Is anyone interested in something like that? Any ideas? We are involved with the anticipated arrival of the next Dover daughter descendant. Margeret [Maggie] Elizabeth can decide to meet her family any minute now. She will be my first biological grandchild, as well as the first in a new Dover generation for my line. My son and his wife live an hour from here and I have been the "chosen" person. To be certain, my days are not my own, but I'm not complaining! I can't wait to meet her- and the Dover temper, along with ears that wiggle, or a tiny hump on her nose! More than that, I can't wait to share this new cousin with each of you!!! Have a very blessed Easter. Don't forget our exclusively personal secret reminder , " p.s. Shar'D." Everyone will benefit.
