The following is the results of the History of Cherokee Indians post made by Laura yesterday. I was lucky enough to have someone who had the book and could look up the information. From what she told me in the past, there is not a lot of genealogical information in the book. I would imagine the below info is all that is there, other than the Collins names which she needs some specifics for if anyone has them. There are 33 entries, which is a lot to ask for. Anyone got any specifics? Sharon Dover Romanek ========== Subject: Re: History of Cherokee Indians Hi, Sharon, Deaver on page 395: Joseph B. Harris married Beuna Vista Deaver and Rosa B. Chew. Baileys: 1. George Washington Whitmire married Ida Bailey. (page 340) 2. Catherine Hildebrand married Levi Bailey. (page 351) 3. There's a Bailey listed as being on page 353, but I couldn't find one on that page, the page before or the page after. Must have been a typo. 4. Jennie Bailey married ????? Jackson. (page 358) Child of Catherine Hildebrand and Levi Bailey. 5. Savilla Bailey married Yellowbird. (page 358) Child of Catherine Hildebrand and Levi Bailey. 6. Elan Bailey married Johnson O'Fields. (page 358) Child of Catherine Hildebrand and Levi Bailey. 7. Mary Bailey. No issue. (page 358) Child of Catherine Hildebrand and Levi Bailey. 8. Daniel Newnon MacIntosh married Alice Bailey. (page 390) 9. Thomas Jackson Harris married Martha Bailey. (page 395) Note: Each of the requested names appears on page 395 which is all a listing of members from one extended family. Collins: There are 33 Collins listed in the index. I will have to chip away at this one. Pindar: 1. Annie Vickery marred John Pinder, ???? Ratliff, John Forbison, and Archibald Wilson. (The spelling of Pinder from the book.) (page 391) 2. Eli Pindar. No issue. Child of Annie Vickery and John Pindar above. (page 395) 3. Susie Pindar married William Wharton Chisholm (no children) and William Archibald Foreman. Child of Annie Vickery and John Pindar above. (page 395) 4. Charles Pindar. No issue. Child of Annie Vickery and John Pindar above. (page 395) Other children of Annie Vickery: Jefferson Ratliff marred Mary Ann McLain John Forbison. No issue. Mary Ann Wilson married William V. Shepard Samantha Wilson married Samuel Crossland. No issue. 5. William Wharton Chisholm married Susie Pindar. (page 400). This double reference means that both were Cherokee and both their families are listed in the book. 6. William Archibald Foreman married Susie Chisholm nee Pindar. (page 461). So, both of Susie's husbands were Cherokee, as was she. Do you have some names for the Collins' that I could look for, or do you want all 33 entries?
Hi Dennis, Being from the south, I do know that there are MANY different versions of the "Southern Drawl" that vary from state to state. I first ran across this when I moved to NC, from Chattanooga, Tenn. The drawl was so different I had a hard time understanding them, as they did me. I have been sitting here saying my name over and over(No I'm not nutts:-)), trying to figure out if what you suspect is possible. I would imagine it is. When I say it, it does come out as a Dover, but I have been away for a long time now. What happens when I say it , is similar to what some people accuse us of saying instead of DOG it comes out DAWG. My Dover comes out as something that could easily be spelled DOWVER, which could also be spelled DAWVER, with some southerners having a lot of nasal tone to their voices it could twist it a little . Or, I would imagine, DOEVER with the first part sounding like the word Doe as in deer, depending on the person listening and writing it down. Not sure if that helps or not, but is my two cents worth. BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (AP) _ A 79-year-old woman was knocked down, bitten and clawed by a rabid fox but managed to grab the crazed animal and clutch it for 12 hours until her landlord came by and beat it to death with a stick. ``Either she knew what she was doing or she got lucky,'' sheriff's officer Cathy Lee said. Lucy Dover was hospitalized in serious condition and will need rabies shots. Ms. Dover told authorities she was attacked Monday night when she went outside her mobile home to smoke a cigarette. The 15-pound fox knocked her to the ground, breaking her hip. She said she seized the animal behind the neck and near the tail and held it until her landlord happened to come by in the morning. -- Patricia Manson Dover listmanager http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Dover Alabama listmanager http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Sponsor/AlabamaList My Home page http://www.myfreeoffice.com/treeshaker/

I've don't recall looking for Samuel (married to Susan) in an 1820 census as a head of household or as a family member. First known child born when he was about 31? Have I missed something? Did you all see Lucy Dover on the network news tonight that was attacked by a fox? Dennis
I saw the fox thing Dennis. From what I understand, because I did not see all of it, but was told by my hubby, she was bitten over 100 times, and somehow managed to get hold of the fox. She held it until her landlord got to her and helped her quite a while later. This was in Florida. I have e-mailed the local TV station to try to get a transcript of the newscast pertaining to this. I will let you all know if I do get it. I just hope she will be alright. The fox was rabid, and she is in the hospital, in serious condition. She is an older lady. I did see a picture of her. She looked to be in her late 60's or maybe in her 70's. Poor lady! Got me on the Samuel thing. I must have missed something too. Extract From : The Early History of Greene County, Indiana (1875) By Jack Baber (Chapter XVI - Highland Township) NAMES OF CREEKS AND BRANCHES Richland creek was named for its good bottom lands; Beech Creek for its many beech trees; Kelley's creek for John Kelley, its first settler; Jack's creek was named by old Uncle Henry Jackson; Goose Creek took its name from the old women fussing about geese. Indian Camp Branch was named by the old settlers, on account of the many Indian camps, where Elisha McDaniel now lives; Big Branch was named for its great number of big springs; Mosquito Branch for its wet bottom lands; Dead Hoss branch was first called the Jewell Branch, for Old Mr. Jewell, its first settler. - - The Jewell Branch was afterwards named Dead Hoss, by a party of surveyors on the old central canal, down on the east side of White River. The DOVER branch was named for its first settler, NEELY DOVER; and it is said of him that he moved from that house and left an old hen sitting; changing his location twice during his absence. He finally returned to the first place before the hen had succeeded in hatching out her brood, thereby giving his wife a chance to take care of the chickens. The Beaver Pond near Aunt Katie Ballard's , was named by the old settlers on account of the dams made in the slough by ancient water beavers.

Does anyone on the list have the birthdate for Mary Dover who was the sister of Francis Johnson Dover? I have two possibles and would like to make sure which is correct. Do we have any census records or anything else to base that date on also. I have a date of January 9, 1762, and then there was a post to the list stating a date of 1742. Does anyone know which one is correct? Also I need the correct one for Zephaniah. I have two which are 1754 and ca 1750. Then there is John, the brother of Zephaniah. I have two possible death dates.
