    3. Terry, I honestly didn't think there were even that many!! Just the same I don't ever mind sharing anything I find . I feel that Often The problem is finding the time to do it for any of us. It may be virtually impossible for some of our members, least of all finding research time. I know that at the present, I am in "regrouping" mode, because of having to take care of two households that are 52 miles apart, besides my regular work. There are people on the list who have to be spread out more than that everyday. It's understandable to be frustrated with those who might be "sitting" on information that would probably benefit others. It seems we just have to assume that people are doing all that they can within their schedules. All I know for sure is "what goes around, comes around." So I for one, will continue to share all that I find with each opportunity I can steal to do so. Don't give up on people, or stop in your efforts. You are real asset for us! ..........gaelcee -----Original Message----- From: Terry Jackson <jacksont@nacell.net> To: DOVER-L@rootsweb.com <DOVER-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, April 14, 1999 10:54 PM Subject: [DOVER-L] Sharing >Patricia, >How many do we have on the list now? 3. Patricia, How many do we have on the list now? Seems like the Digest isn't coming as frequently as it did for a while. That means the postings have dwindled down. Out of curiousity, I went to the 1998 Dover archives and searched for Dover. I figured that would give me all the 1998 posts. It returned 1210 so I only looked at the first 50. Out of that, there were only 13 different posters. If we don't all post our data, nobody else knows where we are. If I hadn't been posting all over the world, BJ couldn't have known my Madison was the one that shows up in Commerce/Blodgett MO in 1870, Richard Nix couldn't have made the connection to Madison in 1880 Bartow Co. GA because there were no children under 10 in the household. I guess I'm just on a soapbox. I'll get off it now but would just like to make a plea for more participation.

    2. Patricia Manson
    3. Hi everyone! This Dever/Dover thing has been on mind. As I have stated, I have heard it pronounced Dever, but only by one cousin. Other than that I have always thought is was pronounced as DOE-VER. But, I have to laugh, We have all heard (at least I think:) Tomato and Tom-ot-toe. Aunt and Ant, and so on. I can even say, that it depended on rather or not my Grandmother, had a chew of tobacco in her mouth, how things sounded different. Against all odds, that our ancestors could spell, speak perfect English, that the census takers, county clerks and so on, could do the same. Add in the variety of accents across the world, little less the USA. The trancribers, and old writing. ( a lot of odds aye) I am sure some of our Dovers have showed up under different spellings. Which ones at what times, is going to be our head ache. (darn it:) Ok, now I am going to go way off course, and post something I found interesting. Its off topic, but once its read I think you will understand why I am sending it to the list Read this sentence: FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS. Now count aloud the F's in that sentence. Count them ONLY ONCE: DO NOT go back and count them again. See below... Answer below: ANSWER: There are six F's in the sentence. One of average intelligence finds three of them. If you spotted four, you're above average. If you got five, you can turn your nose at most anybody. If you caught six, you are a genius. There is no catch. Many people forget the "OF"'s. The human brain tends to see them as V's and not F's. Pretty weird, huh? D--OV--ER Ok, you can all laugh at me now:) But the above, has crossed my mind. If this is true. -- Happy Hunting:) Patricia Manson Dover Listmanager Alabama Listmanager ICQ # 35834412--IM pvmtrish http://www.myfreeoffice.com/treeshaker/

That is to say, if you share info that is not your own, where it is obtained [author, book/source, pg nos., etc.] is to be included as part of the reference, as if it was included in a paper or such. If you are using it as part of your web page, then you must obtain permission... >From Oxford's "A Dictionary of ENGLISH SURNAMES"- pg. 140 DOVER, Theoloneus de DOURE 1086 DB[ lived in Derbyshire- the year 1086] : John de DOVER 1223-4FFK[ Feet of Fines- Kent- years 1223 and 1224 ] : Walter DOUER 1332 IpmW.
