    3. Dear Cousin Sharon, Sorry to be so late in getting to this one. Someone probably has already answered your questions, but did it without going through the group. This is what I have (as per Gayle and Sharon S.): Anderson Mancel m 1st MARY ARTINDA McDONALD bef 1864 (1880 Gilmer Co., census age of 1st child is 8 years old.) I have them with 6 children. Then he married 2nd MAGGIE KINCAID on July 14, 1870. (Marrage Record Fayette Co.TN; Census Records: 1850 Murray Co., GA, 1860 Gordon Co., GA and 1870 Fayette Co., TN.) 3. Thanks. There are a lot of common names here to many of us in the Dover line. I did enjoy a visit to England about 10 years ago and I was able to find the Dover name wherever I went (there is a Dover Hall in the Cotswolds). My husband is descended from the Lanier line, and his ancestor, Nicholas the Younger (Lanier) had his portrait painted by Van Dyke. The last I was able to find on this, the portrait was in the library at Oxford, but I was unable to find the portrait while I was in Oxford. If you should run across this type of information, I'd love to know the location of the painting. We appreciate your postings. If you run into any information on passengers leaving England in the early years (1600-1800's) which contain Dover names, we'd love to have that information from the English side. Thanks again.

    3. Since you have been asking everyone to share, I will share the findings of my latest research. In our FHC I have been reading a film called "Parish Church of Cuddesden Bishops Transcripts 1724-1851, film #0095237. Parts of this film were very bad, dark and unreadable, but parts I could read easily. Maybe someone with better eyes than mine would find more, but this is what I found: Baptized Oct 22, 1752 (the Oct. was not real clear) Mary daughter of John Dover of Wheatley Baptized May 5, 1754 John son of John Dover of Wheatley Baptized March 21, 1756 Elizabeth daughter of John Dover of Wheatley Baptized Jan. 25, 1761 Elizabeth daughter of John and Sarah Dover of Wheatley Burried Jan 8, 1770 Elizabeth, daughter of John and Sarah Dover of Wheatley This brings up the question as to whether this was the 1st Elizabeth, or if the fathers are two seperate John's. Baptized Jul 9, 1769 Ann daughter of John and Sarah Dover of Wheatley At the bottom or top of each page of records is written "A true copy of the Bishop of Oxford Parish Register at Cuddesden" After reading the film I decided to go to the computer and see what I could find on this family. Here are the results from the IGI British Isles: Dover, John Birth: about 1726 Of Wheatley, Oxford, England In the Marriage Search I found: Parents Names John Dover/Sarah Children: Mary Dover born 1752 Oxfo John Dover born 1754 Oxfo Richard Dover born 1758 Oxfo Elizabeth Dover born 1761 Oxfo Richard Dover born 1763 Oxfo Sarah Dover born 1766 Oxfo Ann Dover born 1768 Oxfo Ann Dover born 1769 Oxfo (? - don't know why two Ann's) Hope someone out there can use this. Would love to hear from you. Gerry Dover Osborn

    1. [DOVER-L] DOVER COUSIN?
    2. Lou Morton Ellis
    3. Dear Ben, It is possible that we could be cousins! I have been researching my roots. Until very recently I knew that my maternal grandmother's maiden name was DOVER, but nothing else. I put a Query on the internet and a Dover cousin answered. Now I go back SIX GENERATIONS to Francis J. Dover born in 1760, thanks to the DOVER-L List. I found a lot of new cousins. There are 83 Dovers online sharing information about Dovers. Not all of them are my cousins, of course, but quite a few. I also have recorded in my Family Tree Maker a BENJAMIN FRANKLIN DOVER, born July 10, 1912. Now I am sure this is not you unless you look a lot younger than your age. However, the name coincidence is there -- especially if your middle initial stands for Franklin. My Benjamin Franklin Dover is the son of DOCK DUDLEY DOVER, who is the son of HENRY STANFORD DOVER, the son of ANDERSON DOVER (my line), the son of the above mentioned FRANCIS J. DOVER. Even if you do not belong to my line, there is the possibility that you may belong to one of others of the Dover List. We would love to have you join us. By the way, I am a "born and bred" Dallasite and read the Dallas Morning News every morning. Hope to hear from you. Mrs. Lou Morton Ellis

    2. I agree with all of you so far...it's just tough to find time for me. I'm busy working, and just returned from Holland last night on business. So, I'm having trouble just reading all the postings. But, please keep them coming. I think we all just do the best we can....Thanks to all of you for the flow of info. I would like to ask that you make sure to put the name of the state when you mention various counties. Most of you do. But, there are some popular county names which appear in many states. So, I don't know where all of you are researching yet. So, it would help me to see the state. By the way, I'm in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia!! thanks, Jeff Hannah

    2. Sorry for the late post but Decoration at the cemetery of William Alfred will be on Mother's Day. For those not from the South, Decoration is when the families gather at the cemetery and decorate the graves of their relatives with flowers. Not a reunion but a gathering of My family will be there. Hope all are doing well as our move has been anything but blissful. For those that would like to attend Decoration and would like directions please email me. Thanks, Max

I am still looking for my father's brother and sister, who both were born and died during the 1900-1920 time period. One almost positively was born and died in Georgia, John Milton Dover, and then one possibly born there, but may have died in Chattanooga, Tenn during the Typhoid Epidemic. That was Nellie Mae Dover. I hope to maybe find something this summer while in Chattanooga. Sharon Dover Romanek ----- Original Message ----- From: Marjorie D.
