Thanks Chris--enjoy the journey BUT don't try to drive in London. >>> "Chris Dover" <cnrdover@vol.com> 04/23/99 03:28pm >>> Hi, guys! Yeah, I'm one of the listmembers who peruses the mailings but very seldom ever says anything. I plead 'guilty as charged.' Listen, thought I'd post this little note and let you know that I will be in southern England on an Anglican Studies tour between June 2 and 15th. Perhaps some of you might have a relative you need to pick up some info from, or perhaps you'd like to have a picture taken of a house. As I will be on an itinerary, I won't have a lot of free time, but I will have some time at the very end of the tour. Any special needs? Just e-mail me back if I can be of any assistance. Thanks, Chris Dover ==== DOVER Mailing List ==== Some of the information you see may not be verified. Remember to verify sources yourself.

Tony, Thanks for your e-mail about Oxford. The painting I'm looking for is a portrait of Nicholas the Younger (Lanyear or Lanier or similar). The painting is by Nicholas Lanier (self-portrait) and is supposed to reside in the Collection of the Faculty of Music at Oxford University. Nicholas is apparently buried at Greenwich (died 1666). His portrait was also painted by Van Dyke, the famous Dutch painter. Nicholas was a famous musician (lute) to King Charles I and served as a representative of the king in the purchase of art, as well. If you have the opportunity to visit Oxford and would verify that this painting is there, I'd love to know that. By the way, my brother's name is Tony ("Anthony") also. >>> "Tony Dover" <tony.dover@talk21.com> 04/18/99 01:19pm >>> Hello again; you'll see I have a new email address now. Can you send me your address again please only I went to Oxford yesterday (one of those lovely hazy sunny spring mornings until it rained), so I stopped by in Wheatley en route. So I got you some notelets with pictures of the village on, plus a booklet about the Church. From this booklet it appears that, although there was a Chapel in Wheatley, this was dependent on the Parish Church at Cuddesdon. It wasn't until 1750 that the Chapel was consecrated for all services, but even then it reamined part of the Cuddesdon parish; that's why Wheatley occurences are recorded in the Cuddesdon Parish Registers. I have the complete transcribed Cuddesdon PRs on microfiche and will look as these tommorrow. All the best. Sharon, Unfortunately, I don't have any more on George Dover, or where he was born. I got that same census report from Dennis Dover a few weeks ago. But, that's the only one that I have that mentions my George Dover. I think it would be likely that George is related to Fronie and Frank? Maybe brothers? But, I cannot confirm. I would like to start looking at some census records going back from this one, but I've got to go somewhere to do it. Also, I have seen several postings regarding a George Dover and Henry Dover in Walker Co, GA. So, I'm somewhat curious about those? George had a son named Henry. Thanks for continuing to help. Also, to correct an earlier posting that I made regarding Ben Dover, my grandfather. His date of death was 1979, not 1989. Jeff H. Can you fill in any of the blanks on the census? I also have on 1910 Banks Co, GA: Fronie Dover 50 1860 Frank Dover 28 1882 Mame 25 1885 Eldred(f) 6 1904 Gray 4 1906 Lavonia 4/12 1910 Does your George have any connection to either of those? I don't find anything that immediately comes to mind on your line, but can probably help you out with a little more data. Do you have any other census records for George and family? Do you have any thoughts or clues on George's parents? Sharon S ==== DOVER Mailing List ==== The Dover mailing list, home page. Hi Jeff, I have George Dover 52 b.1858 on 1910 census along with names and ages of wife and kids but no places of birth. Sharon S
