Private Joshua Dover. attest: John Jenkins, Deputy Muster Master, Provincial Forces. comment: I don't know if this is the same Joshua Dover born on Haw River or not and these three pages are the only notations I was able to find with him listed as a Loyalist. The following exerpt is from the same book...could it explain what happened??? "When Charleston fell to the British on May 12, 1780, the restoration of SC to Royal goverment was placed under two peace commisioners. Some members of the rebel army were given paroles and either sent to their homes or to the prison islands off the coast of Charleston after signing a pledge such as....I....of the Parish of.....in the province of SC, acknowledge myself to be a prisoner to his majesty's troops, and hereby promise upon my parole of honor, that I will repair to St John's Island and thereby remain until regularily exchanged, or permitted or ordered to remove; and while a prisoner, I will not write, speak, or act directly or indirectly against his Majesty's interest, and that I will surrender myself at any time and at any place, when ordered by the Commander -in -Chief or any other of his Majesty's officers." I've wondered if had he been captured, would he have signed a loyalty pledge in exchange for freedom from prison??? Anyone have any ideas about this? As I said, I don't know if it is the same Joshua we've been tracking, but it would be interesting to find out. bj

    2. Patricia Manson
    3. Hi Folks Well, I just had to send this:-) I thought some of you might enjoy it. Every evening As I'm laying here in bed This tiny little prayer Keeps running thru my head God bless my Mom and dad And bless my little pup And look out for my brother When things aren't looking up And God, there's one more thing I wish that you could do Hope ya don't mind me asking But please bless my computer too. Now I know that's not normal To bless a mother board But just listen a second While I explain to you, my Lord You see, that little metal box Holds more than odds & ends Inside those small compartments Rest hundreds of my 'BEST FRIENDS' Some it's true I've never seen And most I've never met We've never exchanged hugs Or shared a meal as yet.... I know for sure they like me By the kindness that they give And this little scrap of metal Is how I travel to where they live By faith is how I know them Much the same as you I share in what life brings them From that our friendship grew "PLEASE" take an extra minute From your duties up above To bless this scrap of metal That's filled with so much love! -- Happy Hunting:) Patricia Manson Dover Listmanager Alabama Listmanager ICQ # 35834412--IM pvmtrish http://www.myfreeoffice.com/treeshaker/

    1. [DOVER-L] FamilyPoint
    2. Patricia Manson
    3. Hi, This was in the Rootsweb review, I thought maybe some of you would be interested, for your personal use. FamilyPoint is one such site. It is completely free to its users, and families who use FamilyPoint can have private areas with features like: o The "Fridge" where users can share notes, stories, recipes, and more. o A photo gallery that lets you privately exchange photos. o Discussion areas by topic. o A calendar that provides an easy way to stay on top of family events with instant notification to others when you schedule an activity. o An e-mail greeting card even using your own photos. o Live chat with family members. o A "family favorites" database where you can store favorite places, recipes, and more along with their descriptions. o An address book where contact information can be shared. One additional nice thing about FamilyPoint is that they can coordinate their site to work with any other site, and RootsWeb is considering working jointly with FamilyPoint to build such a site. If you have time, RootsWeb would appreciate it if you would visit the FamilyPoint site at: <http://familypoint.com/rootsweb>, sign in as a member, build your site, e-mail your family, look around, and then e-mail us at: <familypt@rootsweb.com> and tell us whether you think we should coordinate with FamilyPoint to create a RootsWeb-FamilyPoint site and what other features you'd like that joint site to have. Joining FamilyPoint is completely free to you, and FamilyPoint will donate $2 to RootsWeb for each of our users who join their site. It's a win for everyone, and RootsWeb would really like to know if you would like us to offer this sort of site in the future. Please visit FamilyPoint. -- Happy Hunting:) Patricia Manson Dover Listmanager Alabama Listmanager ICQ # 35834412--IM pvmtrish http://www.myfreeoffice.com/treeshaker/

Sharon Dover Romanek ============== Subject: Charts In case your genealogy program does not have a Gregorian Date Calculator, (to determine date of birth if you have an age at time of marriage* or death) or a Consanguinity (Shared Blood) Chart. My program does not have either of these. * EXAMPLE: 18 Dec 1853, John Smith 28 years, 3 months and 16 days, married Jane Doe 21 years 6 months 12 days. Web site for determination of age: http://www.rootsweb.com/~hcpd/formula.htm Two websites for determining relationship to another with which you share a common ancestor. http://wymple.gs.net/~longstrt/consangu.html http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/iss/gr/chart.htm Actually the second one immediately above can be reached from the bottom of the page of the wymple.gs.net site I printed myself a chart of each, put it inside a plastic sheet and use a magic marker on the plastic so I can just wipe off each time. This way I do not have to have Netscape open to determine an age.

    1. [DOVER-L] A fwd message from Dennis
    2. Patricia Manson
    3. Hi, I am forwarding this message for Dennis -----------start---------- Patricia, Please forward this message for me to DOVER-L: My John Dover's daughter Lucinda was married to a Cooper BENNETT. John and Lucinda were in Randolph County, Alabama in 1850. Next door to John Dover was Joel M. & Laurany BENNETT. Joel was born 1820 SC. Just discovered that Joel & Laurany were married in Cherokee County, Georgia in 1843. Cooper & Lucinda Dover BENNETT were in 1860 Cherokee County, Alabama in 1860 on the same census page with several BENNETT families .... Joel M., Martha, W. J. and William BENNETT. Along with my FIELDING connections in Cherokee County, Georgia, this BENNETT connection appears to confirm that my John DOVER was in Cherokee County, Georgia in 1840. The BENNETT families in "this line" have some proof and naming patterns that point them back to 1790 Greenville District of South Carolina very near Joshua DOVER. This BENNETT family appears in part to be in the Pendleton District of South Carolina in 1790 and 1800. Some of them are in Hall County, Georgia by 1820 and some went to Forsyth Co., GA and Cherokee Co., GA. I'm NOT saying my John is a descendant of Joshua DOVER. My John's father was born as late as about 1768. I still suspect my John's father is another John which makes even old Joshua a little young to be that John's father. Problem is that the best I can say now is that my John Dover was in Cherokee County, Georgia in 1840 (1836 by deed record). That means that John had some children I have no clue about, including a son in Bailey's age group (1815-1819)if John was in Buncombe County, NC in 1830.
