    3. Hi This tip came from the Alabama list, but what a useful one When you get the land description on your guy, go back to the page you entered his/her name on. ONLY enter the description of the land. Click the Genealogical Search results again. This will bring up hits for the other people who received patents in that section. On some of your lines it may help connect to the spouses family. It's also just plain fun to see the other people living around them. You'll recognize some of the neighbors from the census and in-laws. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ -- Happy Hunting:) Patricia Manson Dover Listmanager Alabama Listmanager ICQ # 35834412--IM pvmtrish http://www.myfreeoffice.com/treeshaker/

    1. [DOVER-L] Little Goodies
    2. A new find in the works thanks to Terry and someone she talked to who turns out to be connected with my line. Three parts: 1. Bailey and Martha's first born, Caroline Malinda Dover, married John Perry Phillips in Blount County, Alabama in 1866. Rumor in the later Arkansas Phillips family as recent as 1995 by a 92 year old tells me that John Perry had first been married to someone else and that his family came from the Carolina's. Bailey and his family moved to Harrisburg, Arkansas along with John & Caroline Dover Phillips in late 1868. Both these families were close friends of the MARDIS family from Blount County who were also in Harrisburg BEFORE Bailey and John Perry arrived. Terry finds a Phillips descendant who I contacted who lives in Arkansas. I get an overnight delivery of some notes and six generations of unconfirmed PHILLIPS. Shows John Perry Phillips as the son of Joseph PHILLIPS from Union Co., SC who died in Walnut Grove, Alabama. This triggers a couple of things and I got out a message to Terry our resident Blount County guru who sends some notes. Between Terry and Jan, both click. Even shows what might be John Perry's first marriage. Certainly his father and confirmed siblings. Here's the big surprise AGAIN (it's a teaser). 2. John Perry Phillip's father Joseph Phillips born 1811 lived one census page from William Dover who I "think" is William Alfred Dover son of Anderson Dover. I don't know what this means but can say that Anderson Dover and John Dover were both in the 1840 census for Cherokee County, Georgia. Both Bailey Dover (John's son) and William Dover executed deeds on the very same day in 1859. It looks like Bailey actually lived very close to William Dover. John P. Phillips was married to Frances A. Ward in 1861 by William Byrd who was the next door neighbor to Asa Orr who was the first husband of Lucinda Dover, sister to Bailey Dover living about six miles down the road. Also living "next door" is Stephen Gunter who years later purchased John Dover's property (they were neighbors) after John died by 1879 from Lucinda Dover Orr BENNETT. John Perry Phillips' mother was a BYRD. This same name was used later in my family. 3. The MARDIS family in Blount County is said to be descended from Samuel MARDIS from 1830 Rutherford County, North Carolina. The Sam MARDIS in Rutherford was a close neighbor to Sherod Dover, Francis Dover, Hezekiah Dover, Augustus Bailey and all the Cloud families. If the Mardis family in Blount County, Alabama IS connected with Samuel MARDIS and the same family in Poinsett Co., AR .... Sherod Dover KNEW the Mardis family that was in Blount County, Arkansas that knew my family. Same goes for all the other Dover families and kin in Rutherford. Finding a MARDIS is harder than the Dover's.
