I hesitated about sending this to the list. It is a reply to Sharon Romanek on a report I gave her on a field trip. The reason I am including it to the list is to give a little history on my side of the Dovers. Also one of the reasons that I got into the genealogy research...I knew NOTHING about my Dover kin. This is fairly personal. >I don't have a complete list of the markers >at New Hope. Wish I did. I might go ahead and post what I >have though. I am going back soon to Sulphur Springs and transcribe the rest of it. New Hope is only about 12 miles from there. When I go to transcribe Sulphur Springs since it is so close to New Hope I may go back up there and get all the markers. (I learned something at New Hope. When doing a cemetary go straight down the rows and don't skip around!!) I had been to Sulphur Springs many times and never even knew I had Dover (and Shrader) kin that was buried just beyond it, in New Hope. It's sad that Daddy didn't know or remember any of his Dover kin. His dad died when he was 9 months old and his mom and dad were separated even before that. After his dad died, his mom didn't have much to do with the Dovers. When Daddy was 3 or 4 either A. Frank or Alice came to steal him and his grandfather (or uncle) stopped them with a shotgun. Needless to say his mom had even less to do with them after that. Daddy was married and had 2 children before his mom ever told him about having step siblings. He located one after several years and was planning on a visit. He was to go down on a Saturday, on Thursday he got a call that she had died. On the trip down to New Hope he told me that when he was grown (early twenties I'm guessing) a Shrader that ran a store in Trenton (GA) asked if he was any kin to an Alf Dover. He said he didn't know but if she'd tell him how to get to his house, he'd go find out. He went over and found out they were cousins and Alf told him some about his half siblings. Daddy didn't know for years that the reason that the Shrader knew that he and Alf Dover were kin was because she (the Shrader) was kin to him also. >Did you know how to get to the cemeteries? It is a little difficult up there. I've known how to get to Sulphur Springs for years. Mom's got a LOT of kin in it. Her mom and dad, and two grandparents and some great grandparents not to mention a lot of aunts and uncles and a nephew. Daddy knew how to get to New Hope even though he hadn't been in a while. >You were not far from >Scottsboro while you were there, and you were actually in >Jackson Co., although not by much. I like the idea on the >tape recorder. Have thought of that a couple of times, but >not ever gotten into checking it out. Will have to do that. >You are right. It would save time. For the rest of the list, this was in regard to a inspiration I had that I asked for for Father's Day, a mico cassette recorder (a mini tape recorder) I took it on that trip and then today I took it to the library with me. While it sometimes is hard to type in stuff while not looking at a sheet it is a lot faster in research!! >How is the wrist, and Liddy's leg. The wrist is a lot better and Liddy is off the crutches though still hobbing. >Also, how did you get off to go to the cemeteries during the week. I took a vacation day. I did it pretty much to be with my dad. > Wish you had been able to do that while I was there. Still hate it that we missed each >other. I wish so too. We were going through a trying time at work and all vacation was cancelled for a three week time period. Service calls kept me out those days you were here. Maybe when you go back to AZ in the fall we can meet. Cuz2 Randy (For the rest of the list: The Cuz2 stands for cousin squared because Sharon and I are related by two lines, Dover and Shrader.) ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I'm fairly certain A.B. was the son of Benjamin Wiley Dover, who was the son of William Dover and Alanthey Chambers (Forsyth County, Georgia, 1880). There are property records for both in Winston County, Alabama. Benjamin is one of the siblings for my great-grandfather, Frank or Francis M. Dover. Frank spent some time in Clay County Alabama around 1880, before moving to Bartow County, where he died at age 45 in 1888. Benjamin married Mary Lee in Dawson County, Georgia around 1870 (the same year his brother Frank married Hannah Wade in Lumpkin County). The 1870 census shows them newly wed and living in Blairsville (Union County), Georgia, both age 24. Benjamin Wiley is buried at the Liberty Baptist Church, Helicon, Winston County, Alabama. He died October 9, 1914. There are a number of other Dovers buried at the church, and I assume those are children. Junior Goodman probably gets his middle name from the youngest brother to Benjamin (Goodman H. Dover). I would appreciate any additional information you have on A.B.'s descendants. Is this the A B Dover that is being discussed? Sharon S >> Sharon, I think someone has fed the wrong information into the IGI. I have been through all the Clay Co, AL census from 1870 through 1920. This Able Dover has to be my G Grandpa, John Abel Dover, who married Martha Emily SHADDIX, not Strickland, on 26 Aug 1865, in Talladega Co, AL (before Clay Co was formed). They were living in Winston Co in 1870, and back in Clay Co in 1880. However, they did not have a male child born in Feb 1872. They DID have a daughter born in Jan 1872. There was NO Able Dover listed. I was not aware of any other Dover's in Winston Co in the 1870's other than David Sr, David Jr, and John Abel, so I thank Marjorie Stansel for her info about Benjamin Wiley Dover. Perhaps A.B. does belong to him. I finally found my 1880 census of Winston Co. I listed only David Dover Jr. David Dover Jr didn't list a male child with initials A.B. And, I don't remember now whether I checked for any other Dover's in the county at that time. Therefore, I don't know whether Benjamin Wiley Dover was on the census for 1880 or not. After checking again with Marjorie Stansel's notes that she sent to me some months ago (still not in the computer - I'm slow), it would appear that David Sr, and William are probably brothers, and would explain Frank (Francis) Dover's presence in Clay Co, AL in 1880 (families seem to follow each other around). Marjorie, have you determined yet whether John Sr or John Jr is father to William or David? Sherry

Saturday June 19 4:14 PM ET Woman Dies After Fox Attack ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. (AP) - A 79-year-old woman who fought off a rabid fox in April by holding onto the animal for 12 hours until help arrived has died. Lucy Dover lived at a Zephyrhills nursing home following her release from a hospital two weeks after the April 5 attack. Her son, David Dover, 57, said it was unclear how much the injuries from the fox attack contributed to her death on Thursday. ``She never really got totally better,'' he said. ``It's tough when you're that age to come back from that much trauma.'' Mrs. Dover had stepped outside her mobile home in Hernando County, some 45 miles north of Tampa, to smoke a cigarette when a red fox attacked, repeatedly biting and clawing her. She fell to the ground, breaking her hip. The fox kept attacking. Despite her injuries, the 5-foot-2 woman grabbed and subdued the 15-pound animal in what turned out to be an all-night struggle, authorities said.
As per the nightly news Lucy Dover, the lady who got bitten by the fox last year in Florida died today from complications arising from that incident. Poor, poor lady. She made it for almost a year. Sharon Dover Romanek

Patricia, This appeared on the GenForum. Bibb Co. is down there close to Tuscaloosa. Could this be what you're looking for? Terry Dover/ Revod North Al/Miss 1854 Posted by Wayne T. Jaynes on November 22, 1998 at 13:53:28: I am looking for information on my great-grandfather. His name was Peter Revod Born 1854. My granfather was only four years old in 1890 when they homesteaded 160 acres in North Alabama in what is now the Bankhead National Forrest. No one ever knew where they came from, but the kids have heard talk of Ponotoc Miss. and Tuscaloosa, Al. Some think Dover is the real name. His wife was Nancey Reed. Please help solve this mystery. Just a thought. My Kirksey line, merges with a Chadwick line of Sequatchie, Tennessee location. This line started in McMinn County, Tennessee. Sequatchie is right over the ridge from Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. It is called the Sequatchie Valley, or Sequatchie, or also is the Dunlap area right outside of Chattanooga. Wonder if there is a connection? Anyone on the list in Oklahoma that can share some recent obituary notices? I just heard a Steve(n) Dover died last week. I'm not sure where. Spend 30 years digging then begin to find some pieces then the older ones are gone. Reminds me of the saying, "when an old person dies, the family library goes with them." I used to think we were too far down the road to learn much. It's not that true. Of all the family members I've ever known, it's usually the moms, dads, grandma's and grandpa's who have the least to say .... but it's the aunts who are the keepers of the family history and story or the ones willing to talk the most. My aunt in Arkansas stood in the living room in Paragould one time and told me that she did some checking with family members (never told me who but I'm pretty certain it wasn't Dovers) and that we might have an Elijah as an ancestor. Her face was as blank as mine. If you exclude my line for conversation, there are at least two other Dover families in northeast Arkansas who are rumored to be possible descendants of Elijah. So how did Elijah's name come up? It "possibly/probably" wasn't from any genealogy research. See what I'm getting at? Kind of stuff that drives you nuts.
