    3. Terry, you sure cut that one close. William was two months old in the 1930 census son of C. H. & Gussie Dover in Blountsville. I can't find Columbus in the 1920 Alabama (or Blount) census but he shows up in John T & Alice Dover's 1900 and 1910 Blount census. Columbus is buried in the same cemetery with his parents. One of the things that I always marvel about is how those of you who did some research came up with all the different info that you did. I have my set little pattern of checking things ... and I know that I would not have come up with all the same info that you guys did. Good things happen when you're not the lone ranger. Thank you. I may be totally out in left field about the possibility of John T. Dover being the son Jackson Dover in York, but there's a chance to find family info and maybe the willingness of William's son DeLaine to do the DNA test. We have a volunteer that can contact the family. Are there any list members who would be willing to contribute to the cost of the 25 marker DNA test in the event that the cost is a problem? Please contact me. 1. [Dover] Christmas Picture Cards
    2. mmanson
    3. Hi I just wanted to share a idea with you, Christmas picture cards are getting very common, We send them, and get them, from family all over the country. Since many of us do save them, this years, I wrote on the back of each one I got, who was who, and the jist of how they are related. We got one from my hubbys second cousin kids, my daughter didn't know who they were, even though we had seen them last year. So I figured, Date them, write the parents name and grandparents before I put them away. It might be a gold mine some day to future researcher, our G grandchildren a 3rd cousin, who knows. Everyone I have talked to, does not throw them out. They get stashed away in one box or another. So in 50 years, it might break down some ones brick wall:-) Just thought I would share the idea Patricia

    1. [Dover] Shaderick Dover Notes
    2. We were working on updating some of the York Co families again a few months ago. Dennis, BJ & I have been working together on this area for years. The people who have worked with us on this York project has varied depending on the subject and what is being discussed. A number of other Dover researchers have contributed to what we know about this area. Most recently in the following notes it was Dennis Dover, Bobbie Jean Frank, Janelle Dixon & I who were looking at some of this info again. I keep running notes on a lot of these Dover people as new bits & pieces of info turn up. I will emphasize that these are NOTES --- nothing at this stage is ever concrete as it could always change with additional info. There is usually a lot of back and forth discussions as we use each other as a sounding board and this is a method that has worked well for us as we've tried to figure out and separate these York Co Dover. One of the things that I have learned from Janelle, Sharon R, Carol Anne Ledford and Jean McSwain who are all familiar with this area of the Kings Mt Battleground that we have been looking at is sort of the lay of the land. The Kings Mt Battleground Park of today runs right up to the NC - SC border in SC. Cleveland Co, NC sounds like it may be far away, but in reality it is only the other side of the road from the Park. This area that we are looking at was once part of Tryon Co, NC then divided into NC & SC and then later the border was changed somewhat as the counties began to take formation in that area. Hambright property at one time was actually on both sides of the NC - SC border. Hambright is important to the story of York Co because we know from the old Hambright Bible record that the # 2 wife of Col Frederick Hambright of Rev War fame was Mary (DOVER) Hambright whose father was JOHN DOVER. Mary (Dover) Hambright was b 1762. This is about all that we can tell you to date about Shaderick Dover and his family that appears in the 1850 census, which isn't much. We knew from previous research that a Mary Dover was md to James Kuykendall Hambright and they were the parents of Bate Hambright that is discussed in the Dover Gen. We were trying to figure out just who this Mary Dover was ---- NOTES:  9/9/2003 The next candidate for Mary Dover / James K Hambright looks more promising.  Her age matches, so see what you think  --- 1850 York County, South Carolina M432-860 Page 244 (Ancestry Image 160)     #1292/1292 Shadarick Dover    55    [1795]    SC (York)    Laborer Elizabeth              40    [1810]    SC (York) Margaret               16    [1834]    SC (York) Mary                    14    [1836]    SC (York)  -- md James Kuykendall Hambright? 1. Re: [Dover] Shad in York Co. Court cases
    2. Every year when Janelle Dixon goes home to York Co, SC she does some research. She has found some really important court records just about every time she goes. She's amazing. I have seen some of these records. For some of you who are not familiar with these old original court records, they can be a wealth of genealogical data. Often the witnesses that were called in to testify were relatives of someone being charged or bringing the charges and these relationships are often actually spelt out in these records. One that she found gives the testamony of Zeph Dover where he is testifying for "my son John Dover." Others that she has found have named children, siblings or parents in the witness affidavits and fathers in some Bastardy Bonds of Dover women who had children and were not married. These old records may be the only possible documentation in many cases of research left. Janelle has found many of these little bits and pieces from these court records for us that are the glue to putting some of these relationships together. These relationships are not usually given in the abstracts that are usually done about court records. Often times not even the witnesses are listed in abstracts -- only the parties involved. Janelle's court finds have really taught me the importance of obtaining copies or reading the actual files whenever possible in order to find these hidden details. There are still boxes of these old records in York Co that no one has really searched yet concerning other possible Dover finds. If you should find yourself in York Co, SC someday or you live near that area, these court records should be a must on your research list and can be found in the McCelvey Center. Some counties have had their old remaining files microfilmed and they are available through the LDS History Centers for a small charge if they are brought in for you to read. You may be able to order some of these microfilmed court records through your public library. I have a public library here that has a really nice genealogical section. It's been awhile since I have ordered in any microfilm, but think the last time it was under $ 3 a roll to rent it and I had 2 weeks to view it. It is probably more than that now but still a bargain.

    3. I'm assuming this is where earlier researchers decided that "Francis J." was a son-in-law of John Mullinax, although I don't know if this was the Mullinax they referenced. This would be a good will to have posted if anyone has it. 1. [Dover] Shadrach's Descendants
    2. Marjorie Stansel
    3. I could not find the 3 year old John F. Dover in subsequent census records, so I don't know what might have happened to him. I also could not find Frederick in 1860, at least not by that name. I found several James Dover records but none of the birthdates are exact enough so that I know I have the correct one. Is there anyone on the list who believes they may descend from this line who has better details?
