    1. [Dover] Altha A Dover
    2. Does anyone on the list have any information about the parents of Altha A Dover? It is said that she was the daughter of Jeptha Dover of Buncombe CO NC. She does not appear in the 1850 Buncombe CO census when she should have been shown as either a 10 or 12 year old daughter if she is indeed from that household. She married James S H Black "at the home of Jeptha Dover" in Gilmer CO GA. on October 28, 1858. Is there any proof that she married there because she was his daughter? Have not been able to locate her at all in 1850...where was she? Who did she belong to? Would really appreciate help in locating her and proving her parentage. Thanks, bj

    1. Re: [Dover] Y DNA
    2. Patricia, Thanks for the site, I was able to find an exact match on 22 of 25 markers and only off by one allele on the 3 that did not match. My Allele's are quite different from anyone on the Dover site so this was exciting. However, the name of the person is Roche.....unfortunately not Dover. Does anyone have or know of any Roche / Dover cross over or any information on these two names intertwining in the past? Thanks, Wes Dover/Milton Dover/Frank Dover/Solomon Dover/Mounts Dover

    1. Re: [Dover] DNA matches
    2. Patricia
    3. I would suggest you look at the Genealogy-DNA rootsweb list archives for one step mutations in a group. From what I can understand (I am not positive of the relationships you mention) but you may have the actual DNA line through Leon and you may be seeing a mutation with the others. What I mean is Leon may have the actual DNA for this line that you are trying to follow and there may have been a mutation in the other's line. Some groups have seen mutations between father's and son's. From my understanding they are finding that certain surname groups may mutate more often than others. I hope that helps a bit and the Genealogy-DNA archives has quite a bit of information on about any topic with DNA. There is a 1 step mutation with Dennis, Marjorie's, Edward Eric, Charles Edward and David L. Dover In the 25 marker Leon is a 1 step mutation to Max Anthony, Charles Raymond, Derek Alan, Jason Gordon, Larry Joe and Paul Dover. There is a 2 step mutation with Dennis, Marjorie's, and David L Dover. I was surprised that Leon's DNA did not match all the way across with all the others that should be in his group. Instead, he is showing 1 different number in column 20. Does anyone understand what that might mean or even if it is significant? Leon is in a rather unique position because of the age of Elijah Benson Dover at the birth of Leon's father Milton N Dover. Leon is the grandson of Elijah Benson Dover b 1817. His relationship, as far as number of generations, is much closer to the actual person than many of the others who have tested are to their known ancerstor. 2. Patricia
    3. I have taken the Mitcohondrial DNA test, being female it's all I have and I have found the results facinating. My results are actually quite common I am an H with 3 mutations and I have quite a few matches. What I have also done is I got my great Uncle's mtDNA as he is carrying his mom's DNA - my great grandmother Bridget Melody from Galway. As far as we know none of her siblings had children. So it was the only link to her I had - she was a K with with quite a few mutations that were quite rare - as> of yet no matches. I also had another great Uncle done and he was a J* and he has a few matches. An interesting story in my husband's line is that his great great Grandmother was Asian and lived in Poland. This so far has just been a family story. So I have found a direct female from this line which may solve this riddle. Hopefully she will agree to take the test. I find it just as interesting as the Y test. I would recommend taking the HVR1 and HVR2 test as with the Y test you get more information. A great book about mtDNA is Brian Sykes - Seven Daughters of Eve - it can be ordered at Amazon.com I believe. I would say go for it!!
