Thanks Sharon S. I was floundering on this one and wanted to help out if I could, but was missing some pieces. Glad you had something to help Max out and another Dover cousin. Hey again Max. Can you ask if Dwight is suppose to be a sibling to Laura or what? Also is Dwight still living? How does he know of this Dwight? Is the reunion he attends one for Dovers and a separate one for the Thornburgs, or held together? I take it Laura was his mother's mother since he is a Wentz? If you can find out what side he is related to Laura on and then which one of his parents, especially if they are already deceased and their names and dates we may be able to find something in a census to connect them all. That would be the best bet. Not necessarily the easiest one though. :-( Also try to find out when and where she died if he knows that. Also did she always live in the King's Mt area? I know too many questions...... This is from a courtesy lookup I had done after I posted the census with James and Lucinda Dover in it yesterday from Bradley Co. They were in the house of James & Linda Combough ages 47 in 1920 . That is the same one as the one below. I thought I would see if I could find something on them in case it connected somewhere. The spelling is different, but it is the same John & Linda as in the census. Evidently they changed the spelling of their name or the census taker did. :-) I do not now who the two in Prospect Cemetery are. I wonder if they could be John's parents. Does anyone know who his parents were. John & Lucinda were grandparents in the census with him in 1920. Combow Ft. Hey Cousin Max, I only found one Lamby in the archived Dover messages, and it did not look to be her. There are multiple Lauras. The Lamby I found was in conjunction with a Eunice Jeanette Dover Thomas who had died. She had a sister named Lamby Dover Wentz of the Charlotte, NC area. Eunice had died in a hospital in Charlotte, and Lamby lived in Charlotte as well. Now, this could be the right area to be the one you are looking for, but we need more info to be sure. Does your friend know any more at all? Specifically, is Lamby a middle name or a maiden name with Dover being her married name? The time period could be close for the one mentioned above to be the right time frame. Eunice was 93 when she died in 2000. Eunice was the daughter of was a daughter of the William Franklin Dover and Ida Thornburg Dover. Let me know if you find out any more, and STOP those senior moments. You are NOT allowed to get older, cause then that means I am too.... This will need a little more research. Uriah A. Tidwell was son of Jeremiah Tidwell. I don't find a marriage for Uriah online so will have to check the actual record. When I looked at the 1880 census, I realized there is a possibility she was a DEAVER. There were some of that family in the area. 1900 Blount Co. census, wife's name is Mary. No children. 1910 not found 1920 Fulton Co., GA census, wife's name is Landy. 1930 Fulton Co., GA census, wife's name is Mary D. Luther is the son of John Luther Dover and Elizabeth Foster. Below is the entirety of the information I've located to date on this family. If anyone comes across any of these names (still some missing census records), please post: 1. JOHN LUTHER DOVER was born 1858 in Lumpkin County, GA. He married (1) ELIZABETH J. FOSTER July 25, 1878 in Forsyth County, Georgia, daughter of JOHN FOSTER and NANCY PAGE. He married (2) JOANNAH ROPER March 01, 1903 in Lumpkin County, GA. He married (3) JANE GARRETT March 04, 1908 in Lumpkin County, GA. Notes for JOHN LUTHER DOVER: In November 1885, the Forsyth County deed records show that Betty J. Dover sold 40 acres in Forsyth County, Georgia to John L. Jones. Betty could sign her name. Her husband John L. witnessed the deed, and he was unable to write. In 1900, John L. Dover was in Forsyth County, GA. John L. was 43, and his wife Elizabeth was 42. Luther was 20, Jason was 10, and John A. was 6. He was farming next door to his parents and one of his sisters. A John Dover married Joannah Roper in 1903 in Forsyth County, Georgia, and a J. L. Dover married Jane Garrett on March 4, 1908 in Forsyth County. Although the date on his first wife's tombstone appears to be 12-14-1903 (Betty J. Dover, died 12-14-1903, age 52 years 1 day), the tombstone was an older one, and the date was not easily read. If he did in fact marry Joannah Roper, he married her before his first wife died, so I need to solve that mystery. In 1910, a John L. and a Jane Dover (which would fit the Forsyth marriage) are in Jackson County, Georgia. With them is John A. (by John's first wife), a son named Walter who is 5 (by Joannah Roper?) and another child yet unnamed. This leads me to believe that John had a child by his second wife, and she also died. Alternatively, John A. might have been the one to marry Joannah Roper in 1903, had the child named Walter, his wife passed away, and he and the son moved back with his father. In 1920, J.L. Dover was living in Blacks Militia District in Dawson County, Georgia. He is listed as 63 years of age. He indicates his father was born in South Carolina. His son Walter is age 17, and he has two other sons, Henry age 9, and Thomas age 7. He says he is a Widower. Two children are buried near Betty, so they must belong to her and John L. Dover. No death dates are given. Thomas Dover died at age 11 months, and Leroy Dover died at 1 year and 13 days. Children of JOHN DOVER and ELIZABETH FOSTER are: 2. i. LUTHER DOVER, b. April 1880. 3. ii. WILLIAM JASON DOVER, b. October 1889; d. June 27, 1948, Hall County, GA. 4. iii. JOHN ALBERT DOVER, b. November 1893. iv. LEROY DOVER, b. Unknown; d. Bef. 1903. Notes for LEROY DOVER: Leroy Dover is buried in the plot with Bettie Dover. On his tombstone is simply: Age 1 year, 13 days. v. THOMAS DOVER, b. Unknown; d. Bef. 1903. Notes for THOMAS DOVER: All that is known about Thomas is that he is buried in the plot near his mother and that he lived to be 11 months of age. Child of JOHN DOVER and JOANNAH ROPER is: vi. WALTER DOVER, b. 1905; d. May 21, 1963. Notes for WALTER DOVER: Walter E Dover View Full Context Death Date: 21 May 1963 Age: 59 years Gender: M Residence: Hall County County of Death: Hall Certificate: 13262 Children of JOHN DOVER and JANE GARRETT are: vii. BABY DOVER, b. 1909. Notes for BABY DOVER: Unnamed on the 1910 census Jackson County, GA Randolph Image 8 viii. HENRY DOVER, b. 1911. Notes for HENRY DOVER: There is a Henry J. Dover, age 18, in Telfair County, Georgia (town of Sunshine) who was a servant. I don't know if this is John Luther's son or not. ix. THOMAS DOVER, b. 1913. Generation No. 2 2. LUTHER DOVER was born April 1880. He married MOLLY UNK.. Children of LUTHER DOVER and MOLLY UNK. are: i. LULA DOVER, b. 1902. ii. LELA OR TELA DOVER, b. 1904. iii. NORA DOVER, b. 1908; m. JOHN CANTRELL, December 21, 1924, Hall County. iv. JAY C. DOVER, b. 1914. v. GRACE DOVER, b. 1917. 3. WILLIAM JASON DOVER was born October 1889, and died June 27, 1948 in Hall County, GA. He married (1) CALLIE STRINGER November 16, 1913 in Hall County, GA, by T.R. Dych, J.P.. He married (2) LAURA ADAMS November 01, 1926 in Hall County, GA Arnold L. Bennett, MG. Notes for WILLIAM JASON DOVER: Jason appears on the 1910 census for Hall County, Georgia, living with his cousin, Grover Cleveland Bell, Hulda Dover Bell's son. He listed his age as 20. Grover C. Bell was 25, and his wife Bettis was 21. They had a son named Cecil, age 1 year and 3 months. In 1920, Jason is listed as William J. in Hall County (Candler District) in 1920 and is married to Callie B., age 22. He is 32, which would fit the age of Jason Dover. They have 3 children: Earnest L., 5; Curtis, 4; and Eunice J. 1 yr 3 months. William is a farmer. In 1913, a Jason Dover married Callie Stringer; thereby allowing me to tie Jason to this couple. Callie B. Dover died in Hall County March 5, 1926. On November 1, 1926, Jason Dover married Laura Adams; Arnold L. Bennett, Minister of the Gospel performed the ceremony. In 1930, a William J. Dover was living in the Minish District of Jackson County. This may be Jason since his father, John Luther, lived in Jackson County for some of his life, but the children and spouse do not match with the above William J. Dover. A William J. Dover died in Hall County in1948: Name: William J Dover Death Date: 27 Jun 1948 Race: W Gender: M County of Death: Hall Certificate: 15182 Age: 71 years County of Residence: Hall Another William J. EUNICE J. DOVER, b. Bet. 1918 - 1919. 4. JOHN ALBERT DOVER was born November 1893. He married ANNIE MAE. Notes for JOHN ALBERT DOVER: Albert appears in 1920 in Dawson County, Georgia, Black's Militia District. His age is given as 27. His wife's name is Annie Mae and she is 21. They have one child, Ruby Irene, age 4. Next door is his father J.L. Dover. A John A. Dover died in Walker County on October 30, 1933. Child of JOHN DOVER and ANNIE MAE is: i. RUBY IRENE DOVER, b. 1916, Dawson County, GA. ----- Original Message ----- From: sromanek <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 24, 2004 6:54 PM Subject: [Dover] 1920 Luther Dover, Dawson Co, GA > This is either an house with two families living in it or > something. Bob Dover was my great grandfather. Yes he was married to 2 Holt women. Thula who passed after my grandfather's birth and Mary Liza. I have no proof that the Holt women were related and actually can't find anything on Thula other than that she died and had a son Author who died in 1913. If anyone has more info, please let me know.
