Dennis, This looks like Samuel Devaun. There were some DeVaughn/DeVaughans that ended up in the Coosa/Shelby Co. AL area. Terry Dennis Dover wrote: >Another longshot. He's transcribed as DEAVON. There is an Amos ELLARD in the 1830 census for Rabun County, Georgia. He's next door to James Ellard, Jr. They are on page 224 Ancestry Image 5 living two dwellings from Berryman Sharley/Sherley. Down five dwellings from Amos Ellard is an interesting person with the given name Green that was born 1800-1810. His last name is five letters beginning with a "D" that makes you wonder. Old Bailey Dover is on image one of this census when he was transcribed as DOREN. Green looks like a probable DAVIS with the "i" not dotted though??? From: Joyce Blackman [email protected] Sent: Sunday, February 27, 2000 3:47 PM ELLARD or ELLERD: When Amos Ellard was shot to death in Virginia in 1786, his 16-year old son, James Ellard, was sent to Pendleton District, S. C. but to whom he was sent is unknown; it may have been to an older brother or Ellard uncle who was there. He lived in Pendleton District until the 1820's when he sold his land there and bought land in Rabun Co. Georgia. There are land records on file in both Anderson and Oconee Co. today, but no other records for Ellards have been discovered there. James and sons, James Jr. and Amos, and other Ellard males who may be sons, William, Jesse, and Jeptha, appear on Ga. censuses, giving birthplace as S.C. At about the same time, Jonathan, William M., Thomas, Aaron, and Charles Ellard are in various records in Alabama, all born S.C. Jonathan had owned land in Anderson Co. It seems likely these were of two different Ellard families, but not records have been found to help with this puzzle--no family Bible, death records, gravestone records, or church records. Those whose church preference is known were Baptist. Can anyone suggest some way to learn more about these Ellards while they were in S. C.? -----Original Message----- From: Terry Jackson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 05, 2004 11:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [Dover] Samuel Dover Milledgeville, GA Newspaper Clippings (Southern Recorder) Vol. III 1833-1835 Tad Evans, 1996, Savannah, GA (pg. 107 & 111) Wednesday, 10-9-1833 Forsyth Sheriff Sale for Nov.
