    3. Mike, this could be the same line. There are 25 marker DNA results from TJ's line from one person (Larry) that already connects perfectly with the Dover's in the Habersham County, Georgia and Buncombe County, North Carolina in the same 1830 census year. There is hope among a couple of us who know a Dover living in Arkansas that he will take the DNA test in a couple of months. He's almost certainly a descendant of a son of Lawson & Mary Dover that was living in Paris, Lafayette Co., MS in the 1860 census before going to Arkansas. Also in Banner, Calhoun County, Mississippi (1860 census) was the married daughter of Lawson & Mary Dover. Paris and Banner are 7.5 miles from each other. One DNA test from a family line has been just great so far but more than one test from the same line is very important. The president/founder of Family Tree DNA is off by one mutant in one marker with his own father (they are still DNA matches) yet he matches exactly in all markers with other family members. The important thing I think to understand about the DNA results so far is that some of us do match (are kin) even though we are off by one or two mutants in one marker. It's possible that the DNA marker "slip" occurred down the line meaning that ALL of us still related in one group could have matched up perfectly earlier. Any chance you would consider taking the DNA test? Larry from your line is off by one mutant in one marker with me. What if you and I matched perfectly and you are off by one mutant in one marker with Larry? I'm hoping someone from my line can be added to the tests .... maybe we are off by one mutant which could mean that they are a perfect match with others who are already perfect matches and "still" off by one mutant with me. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Dover [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2004 5:48 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [Dover] Death Certificate of John Dover-Shelby County, AL My gggrandfather,Thomas Jefferson Dover, married my gggrandmother,Meranzia Hayes, in Ponotoc Co. Patricia Greber will be continuing the DEVER group separately. This change was suggested by both Patricia and Family Tree DNA. Our sincere thanks and appreciation go to Patricia. What she started has been a phenomenal experience for those of us who have participated ... as it will be for those to come. Thank you Patricia.

    3. I Trish. I am sorry but I do not. Their son set up one of the sites that I sent the link to. You would be able to post a comment to that site like many others have. The link to it is: http://www.electionprojection.com/ If you go to the above site and click on comments below any of the articles on that site then you can place a comment or personal message to him. There is also a memorial fund that has been set up for them. The address for that if anyone wants to make a contribution is: The Larry and Jean Elliott Memorial Fund c/o The International Mission Board P.O. 3. I must have clicked the wrong address on this the first time I sent it. I got it back with the subscribe addy. Here are a few things I was able to find on Jean Dover Elliot who was a missionary in Iraq and was killed there. Some will be just links to articles and some will be the notes I found on her. There are some links with pictures of her. I am sure I will find a lot so will not post it all. I am going to split this into several parts I am finding so much. Take Care, Picture: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/17/iraq/main606844.shtml There is more to the below article. I am only posting parts of it. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/17/iraq/main606766.shtml 6 Foreign Civilians Killed In Iraq March 16, 2004 (CBS/AP) In separate attacks on Tuesday, four Americans, three Iraqis and two Europeans were killed, increasing the toll of civilian workers slain by insurgents. Four U.S. missionaries died in a drive-by shooting in the northern city of Mosul on Tuesday. A fifth American was being treated at a U.S. military hospital. Hours later, reports emerged that two German civilians and two Iraqis, including a driver and a policeman, were killed in an ambush south of Baghdad. ............ ..........The Virginia-based Southern Baptist International Mission Board identified the four dead as Larry T. Elliott, 60, and Jean Dover Elliott, 58, of Cary, North Carolina; Karen Denise Watson, 38, of Bakersfield, California; and David E. McDonnall, 28, of Rowlett, Texas. McDonnall died Tuesday morning on a helicopter that was transporting him to a military hospital in Baghdad after four U.S. military surgeons worked for six hours to save his life, the mission board said. McDonnall's wife, Carrie Taylor McDonnall, 26, of Rowlett, Texas, remains in critical condition, the mission board said. She is the only survivor of the attack. The Elliotts were scouting the best location for a water purification project, said Michelle DeVoss of the First Baptist Church in the Raleigh, North Carolina suburb of Cary. "They knew going into Iraq, they couldn't really share their Christian faith unless somebody asked them," said Larry Kingsley, a church deacon. "They were there in a humanitarian situation. They were people who just had a great heart for helping people out." ================= http://www.electionprojection.com/ Very nice article and pictures here and some comments made from relatives. =============== http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/text/2001879992_iraq16.html Tuesday, March 16, 2004, 12:26 A.M. 4 American aid workers fatally shot in Mosul BAGHDAD, Iraq - Four American relief workers were killed and one was wounded in a drive-by shooting yesterday in the northern city of Mosul, the U.S. military said. Three of those killed were Larry Elliott, 60, and Jean Dover Elliott, 58, of Cary, N.C., and Karen Watson, 38, of Bakersfield, Calif., all of whom worked for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. A fourth person survived the shooting but died en route to a U.S. hospital in Baghdad. The fifth American was being treated at a U.S. military hospital in Mosul. The victims were traveling in a car on the eastern side of the city when they were attacked, said Lt. Col. Joseph Piek, a military spokesman in Mosul. "We do not know what the five U.S. citizens were doing at the time of the attack, but we do know they were in the Mosul area to deliver relief supplies." An off-duty Iraqi policeman found the car shortly after the late-afternoon shooting. ================ Sharon Dover Romanek Primary e-mail: [email protected] Secondary e-mail: [email protected] Researching: Romanek, Gucwa, Dover, Shrader, Tyner, Johnston, Williams, Edge, Smith, Kirksey, Demers, Murphy, Allen It's 2004... 3. http://www.shelbystar.com/portal/ASP/article.asp?ID=8840 Shelby native dies in Iraq Emily Killian Star Staff Writer Shelby native Jean Dover Elliott knew how dangerous it would be in Iraq. Even her e-mails home contained code words. When things weren't going well, she wrote home to her sister, Mary Wilson, in Kings Mountain that there was "a lot of gravel around." Jean, 58, and her husband Larry T. Elliott, 60, were Christian people in a faraway, war-torn land. Monday, Jean and Larry were gunned down in a drive-by shooting near Mosul, Iraq. The Elliotts had served the better part of their lives as missionaries, mostly in Honduras. They had gone to Iraq to help rebuild the country. Larry had expertise in water purification and digging wells. They knew of the danger. "They were just here in January," said Mrs. Wilson, one of Jean's six living siblings. "We had a grand time and said our goodbyes and made videos and pictures, knowing it was possible," she said. Possible, but unthinkable. "We didn't really think that, because we hoped they would come home," Mrs. Wilson said. "She told me: 'If something happens to us there, just trust that it was to be.'" Jean grew up in Shelby, the daughter of Robert and Irene Roberts Dover, and graduated from Shelby High School in 1963. She lived on Hamrick Street and eventually attended Meredith College, said her brother-in-law Ronnie Wilson. The Elliotts went to seminary at Wake Forest and then both felt the call to mission work, he said. The first stop was Costa Rica to learn the language, then Honduras called and the Elliotts stayed there 25 years, braving hurricanes. They would come back home, visiting Second Baptist Church in Shelby, where the Women's Missionary Union group is named after Mrs. Elliott. "We're all in shock, yet we're not surprised because they realized the danger," said Jerry Lail, pastor of Second Baptist Church in Shelby. "They gave their all for the one that gave all for them." Larry first traveled to Iraq last month to survey the country's needs and his wife joined him a few weeks later, said Michelle DeVoss, who attended church with the Elliotts in Cary, where the couple lived while in the States. The couple planned to return to their home in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa later this month and move permanently to Iraq in June, she said. During their time in Iraq, the Elliotts had already told of meeting the Iraqi people, Mrs. Wilson said. "They said the people were wonderful," she said. "Little children would come up and grab their hands. The adults didn 't really approach them." Mrs. Wilson said she talked almost daily with instant messaging, unless the Elliotts were traveling and didn't have access to computer hookups. "They were excited about their work. They would always say, 'We have so much to tell you.'" Councilwoman Jeanette Patterson, good friends with Mrs. Elliott's sister, Carol Ledford, shared the news of the couple's killing at Shelby City Council Monday night. "It was really a shock," she told The Star later, when she got the call shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. "She just had the prettiest smile of anybody I've ever seen," Mrs. Patterson said. "Her sister and I went to school together and we spent the night together at each other's house like you used to do. That's how I got to know Jean. Then she married my husband's nephew. "It's sort of like her family was my family and my family was her family. I'm just really saddened by the whole thing." Mayor Ted Alexander asked for prayers for the family at the start and close of Monday night's council meeting.Lail said the family needs prayers, especially the Elliotts' children and grandchildren. "They'll grow up without a grandfather or grandmother to hold them," he said. Karen Watson of Bakersfield, Calif., also died and two others, whose names were being withheld, were injured Monday in the attack. The five were attacked while traveling together in a car on the eastern side of the city, officials said. Lail said a memorial service is being planned but no date has been set. Wilson said Jean Elliott was one of eight children. Her siblings include Mrs. Wilson, who lives in Kings Mountain, Bill Dover of Shelby, Nanci Ellis of Shelby, Carol Ledford of Shelby, Jimmy Dover of the Charlotte area, Joyce Whitten from Indiana and Peggy Ann Dover, who died at birth. Until just recently my nephew was over there as well. He is on leave now and I hope does not have to go back. It is a hard world we live in these days. I will have to look but I think Shelby is NC. I know that she has a sister, Nancy Dover Ellis (husband, Buford) who live in Shelby now. Her parents were Robert and Irene Dover of Shelby. She also had a brother, Bill Dover. I am not sure if there were other siblings or not. I know she is connected to my line of Dovers in some way but not sure exactly how. I know that when our Dover-Thornburg reunions were held in Cleveland County that these people were on our mailing list as I was in charge of the reunions at that time. Please read below; Hi, Just wanted to let all of you know that Jean Dover Elliott and her husband, Larry, who were missionaries were killed in Iraq on Monday of this week. If any of you know what line her Dad, Robert, is from please let me know. I think maybe her grandfather might have been my grandfathers half-brother. Thanks, Hugh O. Wentz I think Hugh is talking about North Carolina... Max
