    1. William Alfred Dover Last Proven date alive
    2. sromanek
    3. According to pension application papers that I have copies of, the last date I can confirm that William Alfred Dover was alive was July 1, 1901. He was examined on that date according to his application and was unable to attend a hearing concerning his application due to the fact that he was paralyzed and had been so for over a year. It also looks as though he could not write since he signed his name with "His Mark" which was an X. Do you know where your g-g-great grandparents are?

    2. The Emory Website allows me to submit a request for copies of information in the folder on Dover's Chapel, so I've done that and will let everyone know if I receive anything worthwhile. 3. Talk about coincidence! My step grandfather, Phidella A. Gates, Rosa Creekmore's third husband had his funeral service in Dover Chapel. (Rosa's second husband was V. Monroe Dover, my grandfather.) Even though I was 6, I still remember the stone church and the long dirt road. So yes, I can testify that there is a Dover Chapel in Ellijay, Whitfield County, GA. > -----Original Message----- > From: Terry Jackson [mailto:jacksont@otelco.net] > Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2005 1:00 PM > To: DOVER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [Dover] [Fwd: [GAGILMER] Old Dover Chapel Cemetery] > > Marjorie, > I thought if anyone would know that answer to this one, it > would be you. > Terry > > -------- Original Message -------- > Subject: [GAGILMER] Old Dover Chapel Cemetery > Resent-Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2005 09:46:54 -0600 > Resent-From: GAGILMER-L@rootsweb.com > Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2005 10:46:47 -0500 > From: Virginia Crilley <virginia@genrecords.org> > Reply-To: GAGILMER-L@rootsweb.com > To: GAGILMER-L@rootsweb.com > > > > http://www.cemeterysurveysinc.com/albums/GilmerGA/OldDover/ > > Rose Birdwell and her group do such a fine job with their > cemetery photos and surveys. > > Does anyone recognize the names listed in this cemetery, and > is this the correct name. > > Was there a Dover Chapel? > The burial dates don't really sound that old....so I thought > someone must know what this cemetery is really called. > > She provides a nice map to help you locate it. > > Virginia > > > > ==== GAGILMER Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe from this list, send ONLY the word UNSUBSCRIBE > to the utility address GAGILMER-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM If > you are trying to unsubscribe from the Digest list, use the > same utility address but change the -L- to a -D- > > ============================== > Search the US Census Collection. 1. Re: [Dover] [Fwd: [GAGILMER] Old Dover Chapel Cemetery]
    2. There is a Dover Chapel, and a Dover cemetery there with several Dovers buried there. The cemetery Virginia was referring to is probably "not" the "Old Dover Chapel cemetery" but just a local cemetery that happened to contain a Dover. I'm doing some research on the Dover Chapel, and the Church was a member of the Methodist Conference. The Pitts Theology Library at Emory University has in its Archives and Manuscripts collection some histories of a large number of churches (http://www.pitts.emory.edu/Archives/text/mss028.html) including Dover Chapel. I'll put this on my list of things to check out in Atlanta, and post whatever I find. There are a number of other churches on the list in which I have an interest. I'll have to find out if I can gain access to the library first. 3. I've had one experience with Emory's library (favorable) They made copies of a file and mailed to me. I had accessed their catalog online and had the exact citation I wanted and requested copies and they went right out and billed for them. Only thing is, they won't copy an entire file. Must be copyright problems because you have to sign a form and every sheet of paper is stamped about copyrights. 4615@bellsouth.net wrote: > There is a Dover Chapel, and a Dover cemetery there with several > Dovers buried there. 3. I didn't realize when I responded to Virginia this morning that the message went to GAGILMER-L rather than the Genealogy.com page. My reference to distance is from the location shown on the map as a question mark. Randy, remember seeing a Fosters Freeze, that's supposed to be at the intersection coming from Ellijay? Dillingham & Elizabeth's son Jason Gordon apparently preached at Dovers Chapel or across the street where rumor is that Frederick and other older Dover's could be buried in unmarked graves. Know there are list members who can tell us more. These are DNA kin to all the discussion going on with William A. Dover. -----Original Message----- From: Dennis Dover [mailto:ddover1793@earthlink.net] Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2005 10:26 AM To: 'GAGILMER-L@rootsweb.com' Subject: RE: [GAGILMER] Old Dover Chapel Cemetery Virginia, It's my understanding that the Dover Chapel Cemetery is located about 1.55 miles northeast on the south side of Tails Creek Road at Dove Chapel Road. I've never been there. I'm sure there are cousins on the list that can verify this location and fill in the known burials. I suspect there is some reference to Dover Chapel in the Gilmer County history books. The location of Dover Chapel Cemetery should be identified by the CSA marker for David M. Dover, Co. F 60 Regt GA Inf CSA 1846 1922. His death certificate (indexed as DAVER) shows that he was buried at "Dovers Chaple." These Dover's are mostly the descendants of Frederick & Margaret Dover who came to Gilmer County from Buncombe County, North Carolina by 1860. David M. Dover was the son of Jeptha Dover b abt 1806. Jeptha Dover was one of three next door Dover neighbors to Frederick Dover in the 1830 Buncombe census (all possible brothers). Frederick Dover died in Gilmer County in 1880 (mortality schedule). Living with widow Margaret Dover in 1880 Gilmer was Jeptha Dover listed as a "cousin" in the notes. Dennis Dover

    3. I am not sure if the other children were suppose to be her sister's or suppose to be her siblings. This story was relayed to me so I cannot be sure. With the 1880 census missing for this family and the rumor of all kinds of kids there is no way to tell at this point who was and was not the baby so far in my files. I have kids I cannot prove so far that I was told were possibly from a wife other than Fidelia Wilson. 3. That would make sense if the 1877 marriage for WA Dover to Nancy M. Gray was a second marriage. sromanek wrote: >I am not sure if the other children were suppose to be her sister's or suppose to be her siblings. > >Sharon Dover Romanek >Primary e-mail: sromanek@salisbury.net >Secondary e-mail: sromanek@hotmail.com > >Researching: Romanek, Gucwa, Dover, Shrader, Tyner, Johnston, Williams, Edge, Smith, Kirksey, Demers, Murphy, Allen > >It's 2005...
